I tried the Hyundai NACS adapter for my Ioniq5 yesterday. There are a lot of things Hyundai doesn’t tell you about what you need to do before you try. The first thing is getting a Tesla account. The writeups discussing charging say version 4 chargers have a screen you can use to enter payment information (I think? Anyhow a screen) There don’t appear to be any version 4 chargers to date, just version 3s (see below). So, it looks like you need the Tesla ap. Google says you don’t need to have Internet connectivity on your cell phone to use the ap to charge.
You can use the ap to establish an account and enter your vehicle information. Another function of the ap is locating chargers. This does not appear to work very well. My adapter only works with versions 3 & 4 chargers. (Or so google says. We’ll see.) The ‘locate a charger’ function sent me to some version 2 (?) chargers. Tesla presumably has my vehicle information.
Is this accurate for all NACS adapters? Would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,
Steven
You can use the Tesla app to initiate and manage charging sessions
at Tesla Superchargers, even if you don't own a Tesla. The app allows you to locate chargers, start and stop charging, and manage payment methods. [1, 2]
Here's how to use the Tesla app to charge:
For Non-Tesla Vehicles:
If you're charging a non-Tesla vehicle at a Tesla Supercharger, you may need to use an adapter (like the Magicdock). The app will guide you through the process, including adding your vehicle details and payment information, according to a Reddit thread. [1, 1, 4, 4, 11, 11, 12, 13]
