I tried the Hyundai NACS adapter for my Ioniq5 yesterday.  There are a lot of things Hyundai doesn’t tell you about what you need to do before you try.  The first thing is getting a Tesla account.  The writeups discussing charging say version 4 chargers have a screen you can use to enter payment information (I think?  Anyhow a screen)  There don’t appear to be any version 4 chargers to date, just version 3s (see below).  So, it looks like you need the Tesla ap.  Google says you don’t need to have Internet connectivity on your cell phone to use the ap to charge.

You can use the ap to establish an account and enter your vehicle information.  Another function of the ap is locating chargers.  This does not appear to work very well.  My adapter only works with versions 3 & 4 chargers.  (Or so google says.  We’ll see.)  The ‘locate a charger’ function sent me to some version 2 (?) chargers.  Tesla presumably has my vehicle information.

Is this accurate for all NACS adapters?  Would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,

Steven

You can use the Tesla app to initiate and manage charging sessions

at Tesla Superchargers, even if you don't own a Tesla. The app allows you to locate chargers, start and stop charging, and manage payment methods. [1, 2]

Here's how to use the Tesla app to charge:

  1. Download and Install: Download the Tesla app and create a Tesla account (if you don't already have one). [1, 1, 2, 2]
  2. Locate a Supercharger: Open the app and find a Supercharger location on the map. [1, 1, 2, 2]
  3. Start Charging: Select the Supercharger stall and follow the prompts in the app to start the charging session. [1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 4]
  4. Payment: You'll need to add a payment method to your Tesla account, or you can use a linked Chargemap Pass. [1, 1, 5, 5]
  5. Monitor and Manage: Use the app to monitor your charging progress, adjust settings, and stop the charging session when needed, according to the Tesla app instructions. [1, 1, 6, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10]

For Non-Tesla Vehicles:

If you're charging a non-Tesla vehicle at a Tesla Supercharger, you may need to use an adapter (like the Magicdock). The app will guide you through the process, including adding your vehicle details and payment information, according to a Reddit thread. [1, 1, 4, 4, 11, 11, 12, 13]

Benefits of Using the App:

  • Convenience: The app provides a convenient way to manage charging sessions, especially when using Superchargers, according to a Reddit thread. [2, 4]
  • Discounts: Some Tesla charging memberships offer discounted rates at Superchargers, and these discounts are often accessed through the app, according to a Rivian forum. [2, 4]
  • Notifications: The app provides notifications about charging status, completion, and any idle fees, says Tesla. [6]
