Plot

The film begins with Indira (Anu Hasan), a young woman from Maranur, returning to her village after completing her education in Delhi. She is welcomed by her father Thiyagu (Arvind Swamy), a progressive and respected village leader who has been working for the development and welfare of his community. Thiyagu has also been trying to end the feud between his village and the neighbouring village of Puthur, which is ruled by the tyrannical Kotamarayar (Radha Ravi). Kotamarayar is a casteist and corrupt landlord who oppresses his own people and exploits their resources.

Indira soon falls in love with Sethupathy (Nassar), a school teacher from Puthur who shares her ideals and values. However, their relationship faces opposition from both sides, as Kotamarayar considers Sethupathy a traitor and Thiyagu fears losing his daughter to another village. Indira also faces resistance from some of the conservative elements in her own village, who are unhappy with her education, independence, and outspokenness.

Meanwhile, Thiyagu decides to contest in the upcoming elections against Kotamarayar, hoping to bring about a positive change in the region. He also plans to build a dam across the river that separates the two villages, which would provide irrigation and electricity to both sides. However, Kotamarayar sees this as a threat to his power and tries to sabotage Thiyagu's campaign and the dam project. He also plots to kill Sethupathy and Indira, who have secretly married each other.

The film culminates in a violent confrontation between the two villages, where Thiyagu and Indira are fatally wounded by Kotamarayar's men. Before dying, they manage to light up the fuse that detonates the explosives placed at the dam site, causing a massive flood that washes away Kotamarayar and his henchmen. The film ends with a voice-over by Indira, who says that she hopes that her sacrifice will bring peace and harmony to both villages.
