Dear all (hope the addresses other than
evo...@googlegroups.com are ok)
I have been recently involved with Mauro Castelli as co-editors of a
special issue of "Algorithms", an open-access journal by MDPI indexed
both in Scopus and in the Web-of-Science (even if it does not have an
impact factor yet - it is listed in the "Emerging sources citation
index" by Clarivate, formerly Thomson-Reuters).
The experience was not bad at all: they are extremely efficient (even if
a bit messy....) and are really good at urging editors and reviewers to
act promptly.
They are good at this also because they offer reviewers substantial
discounts on the publication fees.
The publication fees are usually inversely proportional to the distance
of the journal from obtaining an impact factor.
Algorithms publication fees have been recently raised to 850 Swiss
Francs, which may be considered a positive sign then...
Other MDPI Journals have a rather high Impact Factor: Sensors, for
instance, has an IF of 2.67).
They also do reject papers...
They offer an English editing service and they do a very accurate
publishing work.
They have offered sponsorship to Evostar, according to one of the
following schemata:
===========================================================================
Dear Dr. Cagnoni,
I noticed you are the local Chair of "EvoStar 2018", which is an annual
grand meeting. I would like to know if there is a cooperation chance
between the conference (or a track) and our journal?
There are several ways we can work together:
1. *Free Media Partner*: we would like to advertise "EvoStar 2018"
within the conferences section of our website
(
http://www.mdpi.com/journal/algorithms/events). We would be glad if, in
return, the journal could be advertised via the conference website as a
media partner;
2. *Publishing Platform*: we would like to set up a Special Issue
"Selected Papers from EvoStar 2018, to publish the *extended version* of
the conference papers. We can offer to publish *five papers* in Open
Access form with article publishing *fees waived* (that is equal to 850
CHF each).
If more than 10 papers are collected, they will
be made available in printed book format and sent to the Organizers,
which could be a meaningful collection for your conference. The peer
review process will organized by our Editorial Office.
3. *Material Support*: we could provide some bag inserts (pens, flyers
and so on) for the conference attendees for free.
4. *Award*: we would like to sponsor a Poster/Best Paper Award. Would
you please let us know your suggestions?
======================================================================
I guess the Award could be free publication of an extended version of
the paper in the journal.
Even if someone would probably prefer to aim at a better journal, I
think someone would definitely appreciate the award.
What are your feelings about this proposal?
Regarding especially 1. and 3., Jennifer, please let us know what you
think. Would Springer be upset ?
