[ Circa ~1998, I personally rented a GM EV1 NiMH EV for a
  week from  EV rentals  out of the Los Angeles LAX Budget
  rent-a-car office. At $100+/day, I used it to attend the
  CARB workshop #2 at the SCAQMD aqmd.gov Diamond Bar, CA.
  At that EVent, I saw and heard the short red-faced sweating
  (like he had been drinking all night) GM mgr. stand behind
  the CARB lectern on camera anounce GM will not be making
  EVs. The CARB panel stopped him from leaving, reminding him
  they have on camera GM stating they will produce EVs. His
  response was, 'then we will sell golf carts' (nevs). See the
