So I installed using a 1080p monitor while I was away from home, have been gaming on that monitor for over a month, up until the day I got back home. Connected the system up to my 4K LG C2 OLED, noticed there was screen flickering to black for less than a second in whatever title I launched. As soon as I load into actual gameplay though, the screen goes completely black, and the only way to see the game is to have it lose focus, by bringing up the application launcher or yakuake over the screen so I can quit out.

Weird something like this would happen after changing a monitor, the only thing I can think of is the LG TV has freesync/gsync, versus the monitor I was using before was an old 1080p Asus LED monitor.

I have tried setting different resolutions and refresh rates, including native in Ark SA, High On Life, etc. At first I thought it was just Ark being problematic, even deleted my config to see if it fixed it. Tried windowed, fullscreen, windowed-fullscreen, all the same result.

I disabled G-Sync and freesync just now but it didnt change the result. Which is weird because I have noticed the screen goes black when the FPS drops below a certain threshold, like 60, which explains why I get flickering navigating menus in ark and then full black screen in gameplay, but if my character is moved inside a building where I get around 70fps vs the normal 30-40fps, then the picture comes back. Traditionally black iron was better made and more gas-tight. The seam in black iron was welded, vs just relying on the galvanization to effectively solder the seam shut. But I suspect all iron pipe is made the same anymore.

The primary reason is/was spot corrosion. If you have a galvanized pipe and scratch the galvanizing all the corrosion happens there, at an accelerated rate. Because the electrical potential that drives the corrosion, is generated by the entire mass of the steel, but the only place it can corrode is at the scratch, so it is very accelerated at that one spot.

The resulting weak spot corrodes out, and can cause the pipe to rupture. With water it is a leak, and while a concern, will rarely have fatal consequences. With a pressurized gas, such as steam, the result can be catastrophic.

Thanks for all the replies, everybody.... and especially for going into such great detail. The heating company sent a different couple of guys to finish up today (has nothing to do with the first guy, they always send whoever is available at the time) and they explained it pretty much just as you folks did. I feel much more edgycated now!

Since 1824, most, if not all (certainly all steel pipe) pipe for use in plumbing has been formed from a flat piece of steel and welded with one continuous seam. Seamless steel tubing, used primarily for structural applications, has been around in various forms since 1888. I don't know to what you're referring. I suspect we have that in common.

At least three entirely different processes are used to make the pipe. It's anyones' guess as to which process is used for a particular order. The pipe is made to an enormous variety of specifications; some are particular to various industries, some are unique to the specific customer. There can also be far more involved than just 'welding.'

I only say this because this thread is chock full of authoritative assertions that just aren't so. Be wary of assuming expertise from reading handbooks and magazine articles. I also see a very flawed understanding of corrosion expressed by one person.

From the customers' perspective, it matters not how the pipe was made. I believe that the core question is: Why do they use ordinary pipe, rather than galvanized pipe, in boiler systems? This might lead to the question: what happens if you do use galvanized pipe in a boiler? For that matter, is 'iron' pipe really iron, or is it steel?

I will say that the operation and maintenance of boilers is an art of its' own. There are various 'treatments' and procedures used that address the issues of corrosion that might otherwise cause the system to fail earlier than it should. Likewise, not every pipe joint compound is approved for steam use.

to "flame" anyone but in general, the knowledgeable people on BreakTime, and there are plenty of really sharp, experienced professionals here, should call out the BSers in some fashion or another. Dispute or contradict that which you know to be incorrect.

I get criticized for this approach, but I think it only makes for a better, more informative Forum for all, especially those that come here seeking help. 50% of the time, they get responses that are so far from accurate, I shudder to think of the damage one person could cause here by pretending to "know it all". Sure, you would hope that people would be wary of any input recieved from anonymous strangers on the internet. But you would also hope that a community of knowledgable people could "police" themselves and be somewhat helpful.

I had some internet trouble, but after one bout, steam synchronization says it couldn't sync my files and to keep playing. So I select to keep playing, and it's fine. Until today, when I played and all of a sudden I was back to prestige 0 level 1 in the middle of the game. And no matter how many times I restart, it hasn't come back.

I have encountered this exact same problem before with Steam Cloud, but with the game Brink instead. What you need to do is sync your game with Steam Cloud. This will solve your problem by resetting your game back to the previous save that's floating around up there in Steam Cloud, which in this case is your level 47 character. HOW TO DO THIS: Right click on Black Ops in Steam Library, and click properties. After that, click the Updates tab, and uncheck the box that says Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for Call of Duty: Black Ops, close that window, than enter properties for BlOps again, check the box, and exit. There may be a prompt asking if you want to restore, etc. and just click "Yes". That should restore your character to it's previous glory.

My steam wallet has the nessesary funds, but when i select any amount of gems and click on the "next" button in the store dialog a loading indicator is shown and nothing happens. I tried to wait for multiple minutes, but it just keep loading infinitely. It seems the game fails to connect to the steam api or something.

Here's a screenshot:

I already reached out to arenanet support, but they just told me to contact steam as i'm trying to purchase something via steam (which technically from my point of view is not correct). I'm trying to purchase something from the ingame store and not a DLC from the steam store. There might be very well something wrong my account on arenanet's side?!

I am having the same problem but Steam overlay is enabled. The only difference I have is that my account still has a few days to go before I can buy or sell on the trading post. Could that be whats causing the problem?

However you might have to wait 72h after account creation (or activating your expansion) on Steam as additional security measure. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if ANet added some additional security checks for the Steam launch since they had a security incident with the in-game gem store last November when they changed payment providers.

I just tried on my Steam Account and having the issue despite having in-game client turned on for the game. I wonder if this is a steam issue or communication between Steam and ArenaNet. It would nice if this could be fixed sooner than later considering how many may be playing thru Steam.
