Hi.

In my second semester at the university, I am working on a project to
analyse people's speech for various traits - say, trying to guess the
language you are speaking, your origins, maybe even your emotions. To
even begin working on this, I need many, many samples of people
speaking, which is where you come in.

Spend a couple of your minutes at
http://quine.algorithm.cs.sunysb.edu/sandesh247/higgins . You could
register and make an account, or you could contribute anonymously by
just telling me where you are from.

Make sure the recorder works by hitting record for a few seconds, and
then play it back to check. When you're ready, hit record and speak
for 30 seconds. 30 seconds can feel like a long time - make sure you
know what to speak - or simply open a blog/news article in your
language and read it out.

Also, I am sure most of you can contribute in more than one language -
english, and your mother tongue. Please take the extra 30 seconds and
do that too :)

Gentle reminder :)

I need some data to begin my experiments - if you've been putting this
off until some time later, now is the time to get it over with!

Btw, there might be problems on Linux and Mac. I've tested it on my
Ubuntu installation, and Mac OS - it works with the latest Flash
player. However, the behavior is admittedly erratic. Press record for
a couple of seconds and play to check if it worked. If not, don't let
it be a hindrance - please use a friends laptop if possible ;)
