Glenn I have a well tooled babbitt bearing service that was killed
by the street rod craze. About 15 years I rebuilt and delivered a
long block 216 Chevy to antique car owner, after unloading the 216 I
noticed spoked flywheels against a tree in his field. Some
uninteresting details later I was the new owner of that spoked
flywheel NC166830.
I got the little 2 horse by trading a dead Lawnboy push mower that
had a good ignition coil on it. The "then" NC owner needed a good
coil for his mower. Unfortunately someone probably in the 1940's
removed the head, mixer and mag and left it sitting on the root of a
then small oak tree. It was left with the open cylinder facing and
touching the tree trunk. As the tree grew with the passing of years
it lifted the cylinder end up remaining that way catching rain water
until I traded for it.
After getting it loose then making a head and mixer then buying and
installing a good EK mag I got it to run...very good in my opinion.
(I reworked the worn parts of the governer). Many happy engine shows
reveiled that my engine has the same problem as your engine. It has
unpredictable runaways!!!!!! I can't leave it alone running for fear
of a runaway that blows it up. I finely put a choke gasket between
the mixer and head that has a 5/16" hole in it. It limits the speed
of the runaways but I am still not comfortable leaving it.
CAN SOMEONE UP US WITH SOLVING THIS PROBLEM...PLEASE.
Thanks to all in advance, Russell.
