I have a 2 1/2 horse NB that had the runaway problem. Now this is not
"rocket surgery" or "brain science" either. It has to be a governor
problem. In my case what was happening was when the engine warmed up, the
detent lever was not catching the push rod and therefore not allowing the engine
to "miss" and keep the exhaust valve open. I had to file the detent notch
to make it a little sharper and make sure it could drop in to the notch when
commanded to do so by the weights on the governor. The older engines had a tip
brazed on the lever so it could be changed when worn out, but to save money, the
newer ones were "one piece".
