As you may or may not know SFMOMA will be closing its doors for a two year renovation - with only satilllite exhibits during that time.

On their last weekend they will be having an elaborate celebration and free programing for the public.  Thanks to Suzanne ... I will be

starting Sunday morning off with Sun Salutations on the roof top/sculpture garden on a staged area. (See details below.)  

I have recommended to the museum - and they are quite excited about this - that I bring a band of students to be on stage as I lead the 

salutations...  as potential museum members join in as well.  Clearly, I had you in mind for this fun event... and there will be plenty for 

you to do and take advantage of at the museum the rest of the morning or day!!!  The event will be covered live by KQED.

About the marathon

The marathon starts at 6pm on Saturday, June 1 and runs until Sunday, June 2.

The museum is free these days and open to everyone, so feel free to invite friends/family.

We expect a large number of visitors, so guests may experience a line at the door.

There are 48 performers over 24 hours which includes musicians, comedians, artists, poets, and many more.

 

Our set up:

You will be performing on the SFMOMA rooftop, in the indoor pavilion.

There will be a 12’x8’ stage that is 18” tall

The stage will be equipped with full band audio system consisting of speakers, subs, (4) monitors in independent mixes,

mic and DI package, 24 ch. mixing console, with processing capabilities operated by our seasoned SFMOMA technical staff.

There will also be a small drum kit and a basic electronic keyboard.

 

The day:

On the day-of, please arrive to the museum’s Minna entrance, which is on the North side of the museum, down Minna Alley. There will be a person there to check you in and help load in.

Sets last 20 minutes and then there is a 10 minute transition time where we strike the act before you and set you up. With that in mind, the simpler the set-up, the better.

I have scheduled you for Sunday, June 2^nd at 7:30 am. Please plan to arrive about an hour early for check-in and set up.

Call time 7:00 AM sharp. No one gets to be late!

Here is info from museum.  

 There will be traffic downtown and parking will be difficult. I suggest taking underground public transportation (Muni train or BART) or a cab – even if you have equipment with you. Or organize a friend to drop you off & then drive away to find parking.

·        The check in spot is the Minna Entrance (not the main 3rd street entrance. Map attached). It’s on the North side of the museum, down Minna alley, through the double stainless steel doors. Check in there and a staff person will help you get to the rooftop.

·        If you have equipment to load in, you can pull up on the lip of the Minna parking pad, and we will load in through the parking garage elevator on Minna. After you check in, a staff person will come with you to help with load in or escort you to the rooftop via this elevator. (We will not be loading in through the 3rd street museum doors, that will purely be for visitors).

·        Once on the rooftop, I’ll find you or you’ll find me. I’m attaching a picture of myself, for those who I haven’t met before. Redhead, glasses, clipboard – that’s me!

Everything else

·        Please arrive an hour before your set performance time.

·        Please stick to 20 minutes for your set. I will have visual signs to let you know when you have 5 minutes and 1 minute remaining. It’s important to stick to 20 minutes so the marathon can stay on track for the 48 different performers.

·        There will be 10 minutes in between each set for strike and set-up. This will be a very fast switch over. I will have techs to assist, but be ready to go go go.

·        There will be a green room with snacks nearby.

·        The weekend is free, so feel free to invite friends. Do warn them that we expect lines to get into the building. You can also invite friends on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/events/165865310254157/
