WinZip is a trialware file archiver and compressor for Microsoft Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. It is developed by WinZip Computing (formerly Nico Mak Computing), which is owned by Alludo. The program can create archives in Zip file format, unpack some other archive file formats and it also has various tools for system integration.
From version 6.0 until version 9.0, registered users could download the newest versions of the software, enter their original registration information or install over the top of their existing registered version, and thereby obtain a free upgrade. This upgrade scheme was discontinued as of version 10.0.[6]
Ready to see what a game-changer WinZip is for your workflow? You'll quickly see how easy it is to manage all your files. Not only will you zip & unzip but you can protect, manage and share your files in only a few clicks of the button. Start saving your time (and space on your PC).
On Windows 11, WinZip provides a 21-day free trial period. Once the trial period expires, users must purchase a WinZip license to continue using the software. This trial period allows users to evaluate the software and determine if it meets their needs before investing in a license.
Yes, the latest version of WinZip is fully compatible with both Windows 11 and Windows 10 operating systems. This means that you can install and use WinZip on your computer running Windows 11 or 10 without any compatibility issues.
If you want to use WinZip to unzip files, you can download a free trial of the software. This will give you access to all of the features of WinZip for 21 days, including unzipping files. However, once the trial period is over, you will need to purchase a license to continue using WinZip. So, if you only need to use WinZip for a short period of time, the trial version can be a great option.
To prioritize the development and support of newer versions, WinZip regularly phases out older versions of its software. As a result, technical support for retired versions is discontinued. However, self-service support through the knowledge base is still available. Visit our support page for more information.
To check whether you have the most recent version of WinZip, please check the version of WinZip displayed on the WinZip home page and compare it to what you have installed. Click on the Help button, represented by a blue question mark (?) icon to open the About WinZip window. The WinZip version and build number are displayed.
I checked C:\ProgramData\Kaspersky Lab\AVP20.0.0\Data\patchmanagement\download_storage' & the folder is empty. I get no prompt to update WinZip. I uninstall WinZip 24.0 & reinstall licenced version 23.0 anywhere between 5 pm and 10 pm one night & at some point before 9 pm the next day, Version 23.0 is gone & trail version 24.0 is installed. It has happened pretty much daily for the last 2 weeks, possibly longer than that.

I still have winzip 18 and refuse to upgrade any further since I have seen nothing in the upgrades to produce more security. I thought about 7-zip but there were a lot of cautions on the info page so I decided to stick with winzip.
My need is to zip and unzip files and folders and sometimes create a password protected zip file and if 7-Zip can do everything that WinZip can do in that regard then I may either keep my copy of WinZip 19 or switch to 7-Zip if someone can give me a reason to do so. Since there is a 7-Zip beta though, I would like to know more about that if someone has any details. Thanks.
Windows does almost all the Zipping I need.
If I need to create a zip with a password I use 7-Zip.
7-Zip also creates a self extractor if you use the 7z format and it can open lots of other archive types, even ISO.
Where 7-Zip falls down is use, it is not intuitive for me and I usually have to think carefully about what I want to do.
We used to use WinZip and bought one for each PC up to v9, after which the massive cost decided us to go for 7zip instead. I pushed this out and did my best to remove Winzip from the PCs (this predates KACE so wasn't all too successful, it left the Add Remove entry)
I'm trying to create a Software item to filter for PCs that actually have Winzip. So far so good as I am checking for programfiles\winzip\winzip32.exe but is there something I can check to see if the installed copy is the registered or eval version?
Customers who purchase a multi-user license will receive a unique WinZip.wzmul registration file which must be copied to a WinZip subfolder in the Windows Common AppData folder. This folder contains application data for all users. For Windows 7 and Windows Vista, a typical path for the WinZip.wzmul file is C:\ProgramData\WinZip. For Windows XP a typical path is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\WinZip. The presence of WinZip.wzmul in this folder will convert WinZip to a licensed, registered version.
When you upload software to oldversion.com you get rewarded by points. For every field that is filled out correctly, points will berewarded, some fields are optional but the more you provide the more you will get rewarded!
WinZip 25 (Build 10661) delivers an entirely new, Office 2010-style, user interface and unveils numerous key features that dramatically simplify the product. See What's New in WinZip 25 for more information.
Important: If you are a registered user of a previous WinZip version, please note that you are about to overwrite your registered copy with WinZip 25 , which will run in unregistered, evaluation mode until you either enter a new registration code or revert to your previous version. For help with trying before buying, visit the Upgrade Information page.
Hi there we are researching an issue where 7za cannot unpack a file created in Winzip 11.x using best compression, we have tested with 4.5, 4.57 and 4.60 in command line (where we need it to unpack these files) and also in Graphical mode to no avail, the same error returns every time.
IMHO this is something that definitely needs attention at some point - understanding 7zip is free, but, the idea is encouragement of users moving to open source solutions where available. Any functionality loss, just or otherwise, is going to spook someone new to the FOSS community back into their comfort zone.
My whole point with the above post, is from what I can tell something *else* is wrong, besides simply some new compression algorithm introduced by winzip...so I don't think a fix now would necessarily b reak when v12 is released.
The problem lies in the fact that starting with WinZip 10, they introduced compression techniques that weren't really zip compression, specifically ppmd. And in 11 they put in wavpack while still calling it "zip."
It has obvious negative side-effects, and it doesn't actually successfully extract the archive
But prevents system %errorlevel% value from incrementing, which might allow the ZIP to bypass another app that's using 7zip for unpacking ZIP files
7-Zip check ZIP format strictly, and find this wrong value.
When I set this value to 0 with binary editor,
7-Zip can extract this file without any problem.
Most ZIP software dose not check or just ignore Local Header,
so those can extract without finding wrong value.
Based on the fact that Winzip is creating these files, and IMHO 7zip should be more compatible rather than stricter, perhaps 7zip should include a switch to enable strict header parsing, but by default be more lenient with slightly invalid but readable files.
In fact 7zip in general needs separation between warnings and errors, quite a few things that should be warnings (such as file not extractable, or file not found when it's moved during compression) are errors that completely exit the process, invalidating any work done up to that point.
The lil hack I did, as I understand it, simply forces 7zip to always utilize central directory in this circumstance. It's not an intelligent hack by any stretch, but....i think it may be the right thought - make every effort to unpack the file
I just downloaded the Big Sur and now it seems as though everything is messed up. I rely heavily on my winzip app for sending protected information for work and it does not open for me at all now. Also, my scanner crashes every-time I try to scan more than one page.
