Hey everyone,

Thanks for the frenzied work to make the Manifesto read like someone smart wrote it -- proof that with enough effort, even my writing can be salvaged. I've turned the doc back to comment-only to prevent spamming but if you want to edit and aren't an owner, just let me know and I'll add you.

Something I think we should maybe start thinking about is the flow through the developer site, which I assume this will be some part of. For instance, we wrote this down in order to help others who join later understand what's in (and out) of scope for the effort, get people on board, and then give them a way to express their support. I was thinking that expressing support might first take the form of "signing" the manifesto, petition style. Once they do, the page you land on after signing feels like an ideal place to be presented with next steps for action.

Just making stuff up, I'd imagine that we might present:

  • Links to suchi and/or a snippet to include on your site.
  • Information for folks in enterprises to take to their decision-makers to support an enterprise upgrade to an evergreen strategy (case studies, PDFs that make the arguments about security/safety/value, etc.)
  • Links to the FAQ about potentially contentious points
  • A prompt to sign up for the mailing list
  • A list of prominent folks who have also signed up.
Other thoughts?

What about organisations that have proudly gone evergreen?

I think we need to be careful that we don't lock out the content to just those who have signed the petition (though I don't think that's necessarily what you're suggesting) though I agree that giving folks the option to declare their support easily is a good idea.

I think we all know of companies that have adopted modern browsers -- the big trick is going to be to get them on the record for this effort. Perhaps we could start at places which are aligned; say Adobe?

Nope, wasn't suggesting that. Only saying that the post-signing screen feels like a particularly potent place/time to present next steps.

Adobe sounds like a reasonable place to start. Happy to reach out to them to establish what their current situation is with respect to using modern browsers internally.
