Yay!
Some of the photos were too big so I shall send them along through the internet!
Hi everyone,
So with the speed of information traveling these days, I wanted to make sure that you heard it from me and not the internets. Some of us may not have talked in a while, but I wanted you to know that Brian Cohen and I are engaged.
Brian and I had talked about taking this wonderful next step together, and I knew that he had asked my grandmother for the ring my great great grandfather made just last week. I thought (silly me) that in a few months or so I would have a quiet and lovely surprise at home. I didn’t factor in that this is Brian Cohen we are talking about.
Last night at synagoue Brian read a dvar torah (a commentary on the torah portion) talking about leadership and taking action. It was lovely. Then, at dinner, he gets on top of a chair in front of all the people at the potluck ( 130 of them) and I am pretty sure that I give him a strange look like why are you doing this. He then proceeds to discuss how he talked about action and now he is going to take some. And then my family- my grandmother, aunt, uncle, cousin, friends, best friends and mom and his entire family mom, dad, sister, brother, sister in law, come in. I am pretty sure that my face was shocked.
And then he proceeded to talk about the things that he appreciated about me, and had our friend Debbie help him by holding up a ven diagram with these things. I honestly can’t remember exactly what he said next, and neither can he. It was beautiful. I think it was about being partners for the rest of our lives. I think I said something like yes absolutely. And then he had a box for me. Which I promptly ignored and went to kiss him and hug him.
Obviously, I was crying and smiling at the same time, and in complete shock. The entire community did some spontaneous jewish dancingg and singin around us. It was beautiful.
I was very very surprised. And then there was a cake that his parents brought, and we had some champagne and hung out with our families. We took some time to chat and I tried to breathe normally. I was really glad that I had showered before coming to synagogue. I am still pretty shocked. All I can say is that I am really excited to have found the person who will be my partner for life and all of the things that come our way. For those of you that were there, thank you for sharingg in our joy. If you have photos/videos please send them our way.
I will be making phone calls later, but I wanted to let you know before the rumor mill got underway.
About a wedding: we don’t know when it is, and we are currently enjoying being engaged. We will let you know.
For your enjoyment, I have attached a photo of the venn diagram (done with a compass), aphoto of us, and one of the ring my great great grandfather made.
Lots of love,
Alina
