This Saturday, November 17, 2012! 5-8 p.m. *An early evening of good music (yay Caribbbean rhythms), dancing, drinking, and eating, all for a good cause!

Janelle's Caribbean Restaurant

(Clinton-Washington C, Eastern Parkway/Brooklyn Museum 2/3, 7th Avenue Q)

I will be turning 28 two days later and would love to celebrate with you!

MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ASKING, WHAT CAN I DO IN THE AFTERMATH OF HURRICANE SANDY? COMING TO MY PARTY IS ONE SMALL WAY TO HELP.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, a celebration of life (that's what a birthday is, right?) is the perfect opportunity to fundraise for a very important cause.  Get ready to dance, drink (knowing the money will go to a good cause) and show up bearing gift cards, all in support of one Sandy-affected family.

The parents and siblings of my former colleague and absolutely wonderful close friend Marlina have lost their home in the Rockaways due to Hurricane Sandy; the damage to their house was so terrible that what is left of it must be demolished. Thankfully (and most importantly), they are physically ok. Yet now they are displaced, living with extended family and waiting to see what happens with the insurance. Marlina's family is in a particularly challenging and uncertain situation, especially financially; among other stressors, they have lost most of their possessions and are not in the financial position to replace them. In addition, Marlina and her husband had recently bought a house in Howard Beach, and it too suffered a great deal of damage. They will not be able to return to their home for months and are also living with family members.

So, what can we do? Instead of bringing me gifts, please, please, please bring gift cards for Marlina's family to help them begin to replace all they have lost; they would benefit from gift cards (check out these links) to  SEARS, LOWE'S, or BED BATH AND BEYOND. The gift cards can be bought online- if you feel like purchasing one before my party, just have it emailed to me and I will forward it along immediately.  They would be VERY grateful!

20% of the food and drink proceeds made the night of my party  will go to Marlina's family to help them make it through this devastating period.  You will also be supporting a local business that has graciously agreed to make this donation.

PLEASE COME OUT, SIP A DELICIOUS COCKTAIL OR TWO, ENJOY SOME CARIBBEAN FOOD AND MUSIC, SAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME :), AND SUPPORT AN AWESOME FAMILY!

**Bring significant others, lovers, roommates, friends!  The more the merrier!

lots of love,
Alison

PS- Please shoot me an email if you're planning on coming.
Also, I will be heading out for a serious dancing-filled night out after 8 pm...feel free to join me!
