Good Morning, Folks!!!
A short intro, because it's the lull before the storm which is the
Festival Season and Awards season. Yes, today is the last day for a
couple of months where we'll have so many things to go and see/do,
that we won't have enough hours in the day OR enough monies in the
payslip.
A quick correction from Monday, as THE SUNDAY SCREENING ROOM doesn't
start until 2 weeks time. I could explain how there are 2 nights per
month with differing names, but that might get confusing. Suffice to
say that the last Sunday of the month (this month) is the first Public-
Domain Noir Film Evening at THE FOREST LODGE HOTEL. Clear? Good. :)
Tomorrow sees the commencement of THE SYDNEY FESTIVAL 2009 with all
that this entails. The FESTIVAL FIRST NIGHT is on Saturday with a free
party starring the
likes of the crew from FUZZY, GRACE JONES, THE CAT EMPIRE and a heap
of performers and musicians - and did I mention that it's free? Also,
tomorrow night is the start of the yearly outdoor film festival
brilliance which is FLICKERFEST 2009. It started in Balmain 17 years
ago, and I have only ever missed one (I originally went because the
company I was working for was thinking of sponsoring it, but stayed
because the entries and the film-community cameraderie was great). It
now spans countries, tours Australia and is Australia's only (Outdoor)
Short Film Festival which has the nomination accreditation of the
Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (yes, The Oscars). I'll be
there for the next 9 days/evenings soaking in the balmy evenings,
watching world-class short films, and... breathing in crashing sea-
breezes... does it get ANY better that this? I think not.
See? Just a very short intro this weekend. So, let's just get on with
the process of putting this list out :)
