Good Afternoon, Folks!
It's stilll counting down the final days of 2008. Weirdly enough I
have little to add apart from perhaps a little note about the types of
tickets one can buy for shows at 'arena-style' venues.
Whilst there are different styles of tickets for arena-venues (Syd
Entertainment Centre & Acer Arena), I find that (at times) their
designation of just what should be called a 'Gold' ticket, etc... is
somewhat misleading. Having been to 2 shows in the past month which I
have had 'Gold' tickets to, I was somewhat disappointed with exactly
where these tickets were. I must admit that having a direct view of
the stage is a plus, but when they direct view means that you need
binoculars to make out the details of what is happening live in front
of you, I would hesitate to actually call those tickets 'Gold'.
Perhaps Silver (at a stretch) or Bronze definitely. I think that the
way promoters have gotten around this is by inventing the new Platinum
and Diamond categories. Better that the 'Gold' gategory and more
expensive (although being at the back of the Platinum seating is about
1-2 metres better than being in Gold Class. I know, that VIP seats
(with the whole shebang of dinner and front 10 rows is a seperate
package and all, but when you say Gold, you envisage the standard
which all currency is measured againt. Not a third-rate substitute.
Putting Gold Class seats back down toward the stage (where they used
to be) is a move long overdue, and make them worth the name that is
attached to them.
As an aside now... I did go and see KYLIE last night and I fully
recommend that show as an exercise in stage-spectacle. It's not KISS,
but for those who love the elder Minogue, and/or want a trashy fairy-
floss styled night, full of showbiz, enjoyment and pizazz, you can't
go much past Kylie.
Also, this week sees the real start of the Xmas Celebration madness,
with BLACK CHERRY, and HELLFIRE both celebrating the yuletide spirit.
So whether your tastes are more to retro-Gothabilly, or perhaps
looking for mistletoe in all the 'wrong' places, there's something
there for most tastes this Friday night.
Of course for the more traditional people, there is CAROLS IN THE
DOMAIN on Saturday night.

It's stilll counting down the final days of 2008. Weirdly enough I
have little to add apart from perhaps a little note about the types of
tickets one can buy for shows at 'arena-style' venues.
Whilst there are different styles of tickets for arena-venues (Syd
Entertainment Centre & Acer Arena), I find that (at times) their
designation of just what should be called a 'Gold' ticket, etc... is
somewhat misleading. Having been to 2 shows in the past month which I
have had 'Gold' tickets to, I was somewhat disappointed with exactly
where these tickets were. I must admit that having a direct view of
the stage is a plus, but when they direct view means that you need
binoculars to make out the details of what is happening live in front
of you, I would hesitate to actually call those tickets 'Gold'.
Perhaps Silver (at a stretch) or Bronze definitely. I think that the
way promoters have gotten around this is by inventing the new Platinum
and Diamond categories. Better that the 'Gold' gategory and more
expensive (although being at the back of the Platinum seating is about
1-2 metres better than being in Gold Class. I know, that VIP seats
(with the whole shebang of dinner and front 10 rows is a seperate
package and all, but when you say Gold, you envisage the standard
which all currency is measured againt. Not a third-rate substitute.
Putting Gold Class seats back down toward the stage (where they used
to be) is a move long overdue, and make them worth the name that is
attached to them.
As an aside now... I did go and see KYLIE last night and I fully
recommend that show as an exercise in stage-spectacle. It's not KISS,
but for those who love the elder Minogue, and/or want a trashy fairy-
floss styled night, full of showbiz, enjoyment and pizazz, you can't
go much past Kylie.
Also, this week sees the real start of the Xmas Celebration madness,
with BLACK CHERRY, and HELLFIRE both celebrating the yuletide spirit.
So whether your tastes are more to retro-Gothabilly, or perhaps
looking for mistletoe in all the 'wrong' places, there's something
there for most tastes this Friday night.
Of course for the more traditional people, there is CAROLS IN THE
DOMAIN on Saturday night.
