STATUS YO
Dir: Till Hastreiter
(118 mins, 2004, Germany
In a special edition of our regular German Screening in collaboration with the Goethe Institut, the filmmaker will personally present his film Status Yo and engage the audience in a Q&A after the screening. We are privileged to have Till Hastreiter with us. The film Status Yo is a fast-paced and colourful narrative of the hip-hop and sub-culture in Berlin. And features also the German hip-hop legend Storm, who is well known in Bangalore's break dance arena, after several visits/workshops/performances.
Synopsis:
Yaneq has a secret affair with his best friend’s sister. To distract attention from it, he promises to organise the biggest hip-hop party of the year. His problem: he doesn’t have money, equipment or bands. In the meantime Seassion has to find a way to rescue his Turkish girlfriend from her brother. Sera, who earns money by rapping in the underground trains, fights for his apartment pawned by his marijuana dealer. Danny, the youngest of child of Chinese immigrants, who is always faster than the police, is a famous graffiti artist and has only one intention: to spray a whole train. The threads of the stories interlink in the 24 hours time frame until all of them come together to celebrate their love for hip-hop!
