Dropbox won't host my icons anymore

A couple months ago I opened my calendar to find ALL of my custom icons replaced with a broken link. I had been hosting my own icon set on Dropbox quite successfully for some time, but when I investigated the issue, I discovered that the option to "copy public link" was no longer an option. I can copy a public link to a FOLDER, but no longer to a FILE. I have to believe that this is the problem; nothing else makes sense.

I tried hosting my custom icons on Google Drive but that didn't work.

I'm out of ideas. I want my own set back REALLY BAD!! I attached a screen shot so you can see what they look like. I have a few more, too. It took FOREVER to make this set; between finding the images, standardizing size and format to 16x16 png files, and then adding them ONE AT A TIME to my calendar.

WAAAAAH!

Does anyone have any ideas where else I might be able to host these icons for free? Or as a last resort, Sebastien, could I send you a zip file of all of these so that you can host them as a set on appspot?

I wish this were easier.

I'm desperate.
Thank you.
Gretchen

any chance you could create one from here: http://eventflairs.appspot.com/#custom ? Or are you icons very specific ?

I actually BEGAN here; this is where I found quite a few of my icons. I can try again; I can't remember exactly why this didn't work for me: perhaps there were icons I couldn't find. (And maybe I'm just being too picky 🙂)

Is it possible to create a custom set utilizing icons from all the different categories (iconic, glyphicons, fatcow)? Most of the ones I want are in fatcows but the other two categories might be useful. Sure, I can try to rebuild using these.

I will keep a list of any that I can't find or substitute, and contact you again about maybe adding those. After all, all of my icons are already optimized properly! Fair?

and THANK YOU for being so quick - I saw in your other posts that you are super busy and I really appreciate you taking the time to answer this trivial question. (Crazy how, once something like this becomes part of your routine, when it doesn't work anymore your entire life stops. Well, not really but I'm sure you understand.)

Thank you Sebastien; you are awesome. I really love this extension.
Gretchen

http://imgur.com is a great place to host images. They offer many different types of links, including "direct link," which is what you want. You can sign in with your Google account, so it's super easy to get started.

Instead of adding your icons one at a time, you can create a set and upload the entire thing at once.

Example:

If you have four images on imgur.com, at the following links:

You can create a single line of code (called "JSON," which stands for JavaScript Object Notation) like this:

{"http://skst.imgur.com/":["sjCgrD","QpK4f6","5XZcXE","8CZsct"]}

I recommend you use http://jsonlint.com to validate the string. It can be tricky to get all the wobbly bits in the right places. (Paste in your string and click the "Validate JSON" button. If it says "Valid JSON," you're good to go. If it turns red, your brackets don't match or are missing or something.)

On your Google calendar, click the green down-arrow in the event flairs widget. (See below.) It'll prompt you for a "flair set description." Paste in that single line of JSON code you created. Click OK. Ta da! If your icons aren't right, you can click the trashcan icon to delete all the icons and try again. When it's all the way you want it, save that line of code in a text file somewhere in case you need it again. You might want to add an icon or they might get wiped out again.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions, and I'll try to help.

Wow THANK YOU Stefan; I have seen imgur but never even thought about hosting images there - fantastic! I think I can handle the string; you gave pretty explicit instructions. I don't have time right now to test this out, but once I do, I will definitely let you know. THANKS AGAIN for posting!!!
