Son of a gun, I have a 3 spoke steering wheel on my '65 S. Was your 2 spoke wheel an option, or mine?

Hi 68pishta,
That's a good question. I'm gonna take a guess here and that is all it is. My two spoke wheel is color matched to the gold interior and there is not anything fancy about it.
It has the Valiant emblem in the center .I've seen the three spoke in pictures and as I remember, it is a lot sportier than the one I have. I would  take a guess that yours is the upgrade option if every thing else on the vehicles ( 65-273 Commando etc.)are the same. There were a lot of options including the body stripe etc.

I don't know if it would show on the factory broadcast sheet. All that stuff on there is coded and I'm betting there are more than a few of you guys out there who know alot more about this than I do. If someone knows where to look on the broadcast sheet if it's there, let me know.

Your 3 spoke wood grain wheel was an option on the '65 F/S.  The other options were:  automatic trans, power steering, power brakes, padded dash, 4 seat belt package, back-up lights, washers, radio, racing stripe, Sure-Grip differential, A/C.  This is according to the '65 Formula S brochure.  What I'm curious about is, was the four speed trans the standard box for the '65 F/S?  The brochure seems to indicate it is an option like the automatic is an option.  If that's the case, what was the standard trans?  A three on the tree?  I've never seen a '65 F/S with anything other than a 4 speed or floor mount automatic.

Go figure, my 65 F/S was came with all the other options listed, but the prev.owner went with the cheap steering wheel. What's with that? No racing stripe either( I don't mind that. Hey ,I'm NOT complaining. Love the car!

You must remember that way back then options were plentiful and not considered standard equipment in today's standards.  My Dad sold these and I do not think he ever drove one that was optioned the same  There is a RED Book out there that lists all the options and prices for them.  Book title DODGE AND PLYMOUTH MUSCLE CAR RED BOOK-SECOND EDITION by Peter C. Sessler published by MBI

Then do not forget the Canadian Barracuda.  It sports the US Dart type dash and instead of the Plymouth script on the trunk deck lid and hood it says Valiant.  Mine is more the plain Jane version wit the Slant 6 but does have a rear window defogger that was listed as a 7 dollar option.  Even the rally steering wheel that most often comes in wood grain could be ordered in various colors.

Yeah, either an auto or manual although I would think the manual would be the option as there were more autos, but since the manual needed a different tunnel, Maybe you could order it like that. so it was an option, (either-or) Mine had 3 spoke, padded dash, auto, P/S, P/B..everything but the racing stripe and A/C. I have since converted to manual steering, manual brakes, 8 3/4 SG rear and will add the stripe. My washer never worked but I had the bag and the pump.
