I live within the traditional homeland of the Ampinefu Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya …Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations at either Grand Ronde or Siletz. Today, the Kalapuya live on tribal lands or tribal-ceded lands throughout the region. Many Kalapuya are active members of the sovereign nations of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde or the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. Kalapuya culture is alive.

ECONOMIC VITALITY ACTION TEAM
Meeting Notes for November 6, 2024
Present: Sean McGuire, Jeanette Hardison, Kate Hickok Feldman, Kirk Rensmeyer, Annette Mills
- South Corvallis Food Hub – Sean made the following report:
- Economic Development Manager Christopher Jacobs gave a report to the Benton County Commissioners that morning. See South Corvallis Food Hub Grant Recipients Announced | Corvallis Oregon.
- Benton County’s Environment and Natural Resources Advisory Committee (ENRAC) has met with Julie Williams to see if Seeds for the Sol can help residents of Alsea.
- The county is looking for an Oregon Dept. of Energy grant for resiliency for rural communities (Alsea and others).
- The Arts as a Portal to Sustainability – Kate had no action to report, but noted that Adrienne has closed her business, Remarkable Arts/Conundrum House.
- Saving Green – Jeanette has been working with Energy Trust of Oregon staff to line up businesses to do assessments and offer incentives to workplaces for energy efficiency improvements (insulation, water heating, HVAC, thermostats). She reported that the number of walk-throughs at local workplaces has increased every month since May.
- Online Purchasing Directory – Kirk is in the process of reviewing the Coalition’s partner businesses that are retailers to find out which of them offer online purchasing and, if so, whether they offer in-store pickup and/or delivery.
- Buy Local First Holiday Promotion – We no longer have a Buy Local First task group, but Annette volunteered to create some messaging and possibly advertising to promote local purchasing during the holiday season.
- Next meeting – Annette asked the group about the best time to meet, and they concurred that the noon hour works well. So our next meeting is on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, at 12:00 pm via Zoom.
