2nd Annual National Small-farm Lobby Day and Legislative Reception
Wednesday March 5, 2008 Washington, DC
PLEASE BRING FOOD!
Who should bring food? Everyone.
Last year we had wonderful food from Bobolink Dairy of New Jersey,
Restaurant Nora of Washington, DC, Amish farmers from Pennsylvania,
area chefs and caterers, and numerous individuals. In addition,
farmers from around the country donated food that local families,
including many Weston A. Price Foundation members, prepared and
brought. This is a showcase for the food we advocate. Let's feed our
legislators real food!

WHY: We want our federal legislators to know us, and our legislative
goals, and we want to know them
Most federal legislators don't know us or take us seriously. We need
to change that.

Pro small/sustainable/independent farming, anti-NAIS
The National Independent Consumers and Farmers Association
(NICFA) and state affiliates present the 2nd annual Farm Food Voices
DC, a national grassroots lobby day, to engage our federal legislators
with the small farm, local, sustainable, fresh dairy, consumer
supported, real food movement and to oppose any government managed or
funded NAIS. Join artisanal food producers--farmers, cheesemakers,
bakers, restaurateurs and more--and consumers from all over the
country as we lobby our federal legislators to recognize that
consumers want their food from unregulated small local farms and to
oppose any government funded or managed NAIS.
We will provide Talking Points for lobbying and NICFA buttons to
wear.

AGENDA:
9:00 -- 12:00 Drop off food in 1302 Longworth, then lobby your
legislators (Make an appointment now)
12:00 -- 12:50 Reception, Room 1302 Longworth
1:00 -- 5:00 Reception over. Resume lobbying your legislators.

ACTIONS:
Please make three appointments, one with your Representative
(Congressman/woman) and one with each of your two Senators.
Call your U.S. Representative and Senators now and make an appointment
to speak with them or their Ag Aide on March 5th, before or after the
reception (staff aides are just as important as legislators). Find
your legislators (enter zip in top of left column) at the following

Capitol: (202) 224-3121 BE PERSISTENT.
Invite your legislators and their staff to the reception. Please FAX
your invitation then follow up with a phone call. Sample invitation

NOTE: If you cannot come to Washington, please make phone appointments
with your legislators or their ag aides, explain to them why you
oppose NAIS and ask them to please come to our reception on March 5,
from 12:00 - 12:50 in Room 1302 Longworth.

As your constituent, I invite you and your staff to a
reception on Wednesday March 5, from 12:00 - 12:50, in Room 1302
Longworth, hosted by the National Independent Consumers and Farmers
Association (NICFA).
We will joyfully serve you food produced by independent
unsubsidized farmers, from animals without Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) tags, raised on open pastures on grass--not
subsidized GMO grain, on private properties without Premises
Registration numbers, with soils enriched by ecologically harmonious
amendments like sea salt, compost, and natural mineral sources. In
short, we are not part of the industrial agriculture system.
We are the rich tradition of heritage farming. We are
your local community family farm. We are your neighbors. Some of us
are organically certified, some of us are beyond organic. All of us,
and the consumers who depend on us, warmly invite you to partake of
our real food and to learn more about us.
If you are unable to attend, we request that you send your
agricultural aide in your stead.

GETTING THERE:
The Longworth House Office Building is on Independence Ave., S.E., in
a quadrangle formed by Independence Ave., S.E., New Jersey Ave., S.E.,
C St., S.E., and South Capitol Street, S.E. The main entrance is on
Independence Ave.
By subway: Capitol South Station (355 First Street, S.E.--on First
St., S.E., between C St., S.E. and D St., S.E.), an orange/blue-line
transfer station, two blocks from Longworth.
By car: your best bet for parking is Union Station, at the
intersection of North Capitol St. and Massachusetts Ave., N.E. From
Union Station, walk 5 blocks south on 1st St., N.E., to Independence
Ave. S.E.. Turn right on Independence and walk one block to New
Jersey. Turn left on New Jersey and enter building on right.
