Scottish Fiddling Workshop, Sat., April 11th, 2020
An online, live-streaming event

Calling all fiddlers! The Salt Lake Chapter of Utah Old-Time Fiddlers will be holding a free, live-streaming online workshop on Scottish fiddling on Saturday, April 11th, 2020, from 12:30 - 1:45 pm MDT. Attend from your home--all that's needed is an internet connection and a computer, tablet, or phone. All are welcome; material taught at late beginner to intermediate level. Please register for the workshop (so that we can send you connection information) by sending an email to Dan Eastmond at deast...@gmail.com

The workshop will be led by Danielle Montague-Judd, a long-time student and performer of Scottish music. She plays for the Murray Scottish and English country dancing group and performs for Utah Scottish Association events. Her article on champion Scottish fiddler Rebecca Lomnicky was published as a feature in the Winter 2018/2019 issue of Fiddler Magazine, and she has taken numerous workshops with Rebecca on Scottish fiddling.

April's workshop focuses on unlocking some of the keys to playing tunes in the Scottish style. Add to your fiddling vocabulary by learning bagpipe-derived ornaments and bowing techniques that will bring snap and drive to your playing! Tunes will be taught by ear and sheet music will be available to download.

Updated information, 4/3/20: This workshop was to serve as an introduction to the 2020 Fiddlers' Rally, an annual fiddling event held in conjunction with the Utah Highland Games and Scottish Festival (the inaugural rally was held in 2019). A fiddlers' rally is a massed performance of fiddlers playing traditional Scottish tunes. The 2020 Utah Scottish Festival and Highland Games has been postponed until further notice, but a virtual rally might be in the works for later this year, possibly in early summer. If you are interested receiving updates about the 2020 fiddlers' rally, please join the email list using this link:

Your information will only be used to contact you about the fiddler's rally and will never be sold, rented, or given out to any other party.

Hope you can join us for the fiddling workshop on April 11th and perhaps for a virtual rally in the future!

Sincerely,
Danielle
