Subject: 2/14: SLC Irish traditional music session

Hi all,

There's a new monthly session on the Wasatch Front that has just started up - it's held on the second Monday night of every month at the VFW Bar, 2920 So. Highland Drive, SLC (Sugarhouse). The entrance is best accessed from Zenith Ave., the cross street just north of the bar, on the corner where Sugarhouse Furniture is located. The session will be in the upstairs room - there's a staircase outside and to the right of the downstairs entrance that leads directly upstairs.

The next session will take place this coming Monday, Feb. 14th at 7:00 p.m.
What better way to spend Valentine's Day than playing tunes? I know my partner is happier when I play tunes elsewhere...

As many of you know, The Republican on State St. shut down last year, after 15 years of hosting the SLC session. It's hard to find venues for sessions even without a pandemic, so there has been no public venue that I know of for Irish traditional music since March of 2020 apart from a handful of house sessions.

Ross Faison, a stalwart of the Republican session, has organized this and reports that the room is very large (larger than the Republican, but more of a square than a rectangle), the Monday night crowd is quite small but enthusiastic, and they seem excited to host the session.

The VFW Bar does not require masks or vaccines for entry, but Ross notes the regulars tend to skew to an older demographic that is more likely to be vaccinated.

All are very welcome (over 21 unfortunately, since it's a bar), regardless of playing ability, sheet music is OK for those that need it, and new players are encouraged to attend.

Cheers,
Mark
