This title is not claiming anything at all.
Just trying to find some answers on this forum if we would be accepted to organize the 15th EPC in 2015 on October 2/3/4.

The venue would be in Sint Niklaas, where we had the recent BOP with 150 participants.
For the EPC we would be having even more space available and would not allow the recreational players.
Also we would integrate a full fledged Classics tournament (tryout already at BOP 2014).

No idea who is to decide whether we are allowed to pin this one down or not ...

With the best regards from Belgium,

Lieven Engelbeen
IFPA Country Director.

I'm not sure who claimed what year, but I know that several countries are
interested. Will Barber talked about having it in the UK, and Olli-Mikko
talked about having it in Finland. And I don't know if Hungary wants to make
another shot at it some day, since they had to back out of 2013.

Sweden is as always ready to jump in when needed, but I'd rather see new
countries arrange the event.

The group isn't dead, it just doesn't have a great bandwidth.

Perhaps another forum where this could be discussed is with the IFPA country directors, but that's closed discussion and might suffer lack consensus from ordinary folk.

Regarding who decides where the next event is, I think in recent years there hasn't been much competition and if you're eager and have a track record, that's a pretty good start.

But, if there's going to be alternatives, it might be best to have a specific time period when candidates would make final proposals and then a consensus could be achieved. Maybe that could be June/July in the preceding year i.e. for 2015 discuss about it now but wait until mid next year for a consensus? Without something like that, everyone's in limbo and that's especially bad for those looking to organise going forward.

What do you think?

Cheers,
Phil

I asked about the plans for 2015 in another thread late July (Re: EPC 2014 and further plans?), but that conversation dried up quite quickly.

We haven't made any further plans about organizing EPC in Finland. Seeing that you have things planned that far already, I'd give green light for Belgium to host the 2015 EPC.

But are the plans for UK to host combined EPC+IFPA in 2015 still alive? Even in this case I would still root for Belgium, since it would be yet another new country to host the tournament.

I totally agree with Olli-Miko. As a matter of fact, I had my hopes put on Finland, but Belgium would also be perfect, more reading and watching last BOP reports.

I'm sure the UK would host a great european as they already demonstrated 4 years ago, but I also prefer the EPC running in as many different european countries as posible.

P.D. Have you seen, Lieven? This group is not dead after all. ;)

Ok... The group is not dead ...  ;-)

It was already mentioned before by Albert Nomden in an older thread that for a lot of players it would be not good to combine EPC with IFPA ... as they would (have to) choose between one of them.
That would jeopardise the quality of either EPC or IFPA event ...

Anyway, I have given the information here that we are willing to organise EPC in 2015.
Once I get green light, we can go full force forward.

You are all welcome for the tryout at BOP2014, October 4-5.  Same location, same quantity of players, also classics tournament and team tournament.

With regards,

Lieven

I also prefer new countries, and I agree that EPC should live its own life, separate from IFPA.

So my opinion is Belgium 2015 and Finland 2016.

Countries that have organized EPC: Netherlands (twice), Germany, Sweden (three times), Denmark, UK, Switzerland, France (twice), Spain and soon Italy.

New countries that (might) have the capacity: Belgium, Finland, Hungary, Poland, Norway, Austria.

me too. I agree with Patrik. If we can to cover all European countries in next years, coul be a great project in my opinion.

I take this opportunity to put forward a proposal about EPC for the future.
In your opinion, could be a good idea think a European Championhip opened only for a lot of players for each national Ifpa rankings? like for Ifpa WOrld Champ, but with more players for each countries (4, 10, 20 ...?)

I think it should be open for all. Big is fun. Bigger is even more fun.

In many cases there’s a player limit due to the size of the venue, and there could be reasons to prioritize players from other countries over domestic players, but other than that I think we should keep it open.

Gentlemen and girls,

EPC 2014 in Rimini is coming closer ... flights, rental car and hotel booked... I am ready for it !!

Here in Belgium we are however already thinking a step further ... the next EPC 2015.
We would like to have a clear cut answer whether it is ok for us to organize.  We need to book the venue and start collecting even more good quality classic games to run a full fledged classics tournament as well.

I know that UK and Finland were also interested ... so I guess that if I get the OK from both IFPA country directors from UK and Finland, it is good enough as a confirmation for us to go ahead.

Awaiting your responses.

With the very best regards from Belgium,

Hi Lieven!

Belgium hosting EPC 2015 is definitely OK for Finland.
