preview-Images more or less available

Hello together,

thanks a lot for that new, nice API - i am happy with it! :-)

Working with the API let to some problems:

In my testing-scenarios i really often find objects without any accessably images (f.e. http://europeana.eu/portal/record/0943101/FA0A2703BBBF3DD6CBFD0A46D0AB2572346056AF.html).

Furthermore i am often in conflict with objects like this: http://europeana.eu/portal/record/08547/sgml_eu_php_obj_ms000954.html
Preview-Image-Url from API-Call is: http://europeanastatic.eu/api/image?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fmuseum.zib.de%2Fsgml_internet%2Fimg.php%3Fimg%3Dms000954%26width%3D300&size=LARGE&type=IMAGE

This returns the default standard-thumbnail... If you click on the thumbnail in the browser, it opens a "middle-size" image, which works.. (see attachement) Whats going on here?

My point is: How can i use the API and retreive only objects, which have an existing, accessibly preview-image?

Hi Tobias,

 

I encountered similar problems when downloading Europeana Thumbnails.

In order to filter out the “placeholder” Thumbnails,

( http://europeanastatic.eu/api/image?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fmuseum.zib.de%2Fsgml_internet%2Fimg.php%3Fimg%3Dms000954%26width%3D300&size=LARGE&type=IMAGE )

I simply used the image size to identify this placeholders ..

In fact is the same image that first is a GIF and not a JPEG as the other images and has the size of 3583 bytes.

This works for my case, … but it is still not possible to use it directly in the query. Hopefully the CRF will be able to express queries that eliminate placeholders….
