Hello,

does anyone have experience with seting up road emission source paramerers in CALPUFF 7?
In previous version of CALPUFF there was no possibility to directly specify road sources, so I used lines consisting of 25 m long volume sources, and derived the sigmas using recommendations from a paper by Jelena Popovic.
Now in calpuff7 road sources can be explicitly defined  but I have a problem especially with sigma Y. As I see in the input file, only one value of sigma z can be specified for a single road, but that single road can be defined by any necessary number of line segments of variable length (depending on the complexity of the road geometry). Hence the problem of what will be considered as a horizontal dimension of the road?
Is anybody aware of some user manual or recommendations related to road sources?
If so, please, let me know, I will be grateful for any advice.

Regards,

Jana

Hello, Jana!

Not sure if these will be exactly what you are looking for, but the links may help you out:
https://www.weblakes.com/newsletter/2016/may2016.html (search for "road" in the page and you will see their modelling tip)
https://www3.epa.gov/scram001/reports/Haul_Road_Workgroup-Final_Report_Package-20120302.pdf (Haul Road Workgroup Project, Final Report)

You may want to use other models specific for roadway sources like CALINE. If so, this link might be useful to you:

Hi Davi,

thanks for quick reply, the first link is helpful indeed - it hasn't occured to me that the sigmaY related to the road width. Now it is clearer.
(I need to use CALPUFF specifically as I model a rather complex mixture of sources in the same domain with a comlex terrain).

Have a nice day,

Jana
