Hi everyone,

I’ve had my FCB1010 for years, and now I want to put it to use. I’m currently playing for enjoyment at home and have always used pedals, amps, and cabinets. At 66 years old, I’m looking for a lightweight solution. If I perform somewhere in the future, all I’ll need is my laptop, my rack for powered speakers, and the audio interface and of course my guitars.

I have a stock chip, a UNO 1.0.4, and a EurekaPROM 3.2 chip for my FCB1010. My goal is to control the VSTs I have (Amplitube 5, Overloud TH, Guitar Rig 7) through my DAW (Cakewalk). When my backing tracks load—tracks I've created over the years—I want to be able to control the VSTs within that file.

Specifically, I’d like to have an on/off functionality for the pedals for the VST I am using in my DAW file. For example, I might want pedal 1 to turn off my distortion pedal and pedal 2 to turn off my chorus pedal, etc. I plan to use expression pedals for Volume and WAH.

That’s essentially what I’m aiming for: I can control the settings for each pedal using MIDI commands in the DAW with the VSTs.

I've watched numerous YouTube videos, but I still find myself confused—especially about which chip to use and why.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, and God bless,
Craig

Hey Craig,

You're not dumb - MIDI is complicated - and the FCB1010 is complicated. That's why we developed the EurekaPROM all those years ago, so I could use it with my effects unit.

We do have lots of customers that use a EurekaPROM-enabled FCB1010 for what you want to do controlling VSTs. But what I tell people with software-based effects is to try it out with the native FCB1010 "as is" to see if that works for your flow. If you decide that you'd like a bank of MIDI CC#s for effects, a mode for entering presets, and a mode for saving/recalling favorite presets - then the EurekaPROM is an inexpensive upgrade.

Cheers,
Dave
