It reached us here at Alcatel Austria, but that's still in Austria.
I am amazed to find that there is another site in Austria!

Do I really need a funny line in a .signature file?
I am amazed to see 9-digit telephone numbers in Austria, besides 3 digit city
codes (I know you can use "1" also).
Abhay
These are not 9-digit telephone numbers, but 5-digit telephone numbers
with 4-digit extension numbers.
And yes, most city codes in Austria are three or four digits; `1' for
Vienna only works from outside Austria, and is the only single-digit
code.
As a result, at my place of work, with a 4-digit city code and 5-digit
phone numbers, it is impossible to direct-dial any of our 3- or
4-digit extensions from outside Austria.
It got here Wolf
bye

It reached us at Danmarks Tekniske Hojskole in Lyngby (near Copenhagen)

I am also amazed that so many people read eunet.test.
Austria has this amazing (there's that word again!) telephone system,
whereby an extra digits that the public exchange doesn't need, it sends
on down the telephone line. So, when you dial my local number, 27722, you
get ring back tone and you have already gone through the public exchange
and are connected to our PABX (private automatic branch exchange). The rest
of the digits, 2419, are sent to the PABX, which selects the extension. The
operator number is 277220.
Our PABX theoretically can have six digit extensions, and Vienna's long
distance dialling code is (0222), (which can be abbreviated to 1, for
international calls), so we could have a number such as
(0222) 27722-123456
Of course, the public exchange number can be longer as well!
It also reached me in Singapore, a long way east (although I must say that
my newsfeed is in Paderborn, and that is buried very deep in Germany).

!!! Singapore on EUnet !!! Is that some country in Europe ?
Welcome, anyway.

He's been on the net a long time. Illustrates the clash between
nationally organised networks versus internationally organised companies.
As his site is part of Nixdorf, a German-based company, and as he gets his
feed straight from Germany (presumably over Nixdorf-paid comms circuits),
and as Mathias himself and probably a number of other people out there are
ex-pat Europeans, its not suprising they 'are on' the Eunet (ie get the
distribution). A more interesting question is whether they feed it to any
'native' Singapore sites. Mathias, if you're reading this, you might tell
us.
Some time ago I did try to mail Mathias, but any address I could work out
for nixsin.uucp failed - mostly within the Nixdorf network, which didn't
seem to recognise that site! Maybe they don't want people to mail all the
far east via their comms lines, or maybe it was a temporary problem.
Regards,
David Wright
Thanks for this informative response.

Natl Univ of Singapore apparently has a bitnet (not EARN ?) connection NUSVM.
I haven't seen anything from them either on this net. I wonder if there are
more sites in Singapore connected by e-mail-able networks. (I would like to
be able to e-mail to Mobil Oil Singapore - It is quite unlikely that they have
such a connection, although a company like Alko in Finland has one.) Does SISIR
have one ?

Could you try koerberm%nixsin@<Paderborn host>.whatever ?

Ok, I get my mail and news via a direct line from nixpbe in Paderborn,Germany.
I don't know for sure, but as far as I know, we don't feed anything from here
to other sites in Singapore, or Asia or elsewhere. When I talked to a guy
at NUS (National University of Singapore), I had to send it vi the US and
then BITNET. We are not connected to any asian or singaporean net. Although
I would appreciate that sometimes. But since I'm not sysadmin (sigh).
About the address:
Mailing to me works mostly, if you use something like:
koerb...@nixpbe.UUCP
or
..!unido!koerber.sin@nixpbe
you may replace nixpbe with any other nixdorf site as there are:
nixtor (in Toronto,Canada)
nixbln (Berlin,UNITED LAENDER of GERMANY) (not yet, but soon)
nixbur (Burlington,Massachussetts (sp?))
nixntc (Santa Clara, California)
and some more, I don't know all of them.
I also have my problems with our internal addressing, since my automatic
reply from mailers etc doesn't work.
hope that helps,
Mathias
PS: Did anyone get this?

A chap from nusdiscs.bitnet does participate in comp.unix.wizards, and possibly
some other groups, but I think it's via the mailing list gateways.
