Once upon a time, the Poles wanted to find out, why there was
such a shortage of meat in Poland. So they asked their best
computer, why there was a shortage of meat in Poland.
"Why is there a shortage of meat in Poland?", they asked it.
The computer thought for a little while, and then halted with
the message:

** ERROR ** Unknown identifier : meat **

Well, it seamed they would never get an answer from any
computer built and manufactured in Poland. So they decided to
ask for help in the United States, where they build soooo many
good computers. So they went to an American company and asked
their best computer:
"Why is ther a shortage of meat in Poland?". As you may already
have guessed, the American computer could not answer this vital
question; it halted immidiately with the message:

** ERROR ** Unknown identifier : shortage **

Now, the poor Poles didn't know what to do. But a bright
American suggested, that they should use a Russian computer,
since a Russian computer should know of both meat and
shortages. So they tried on a Russian computer, asking it the
question: "Why is there a shortage of meat in Poland?". The
Russian computer immidiately halted, issuing the message:

**ERROR ** Unknown identifier : why **

I've heard a quite similar anecdot:

Capitalism and Communism are waiting for Socialism. --
Time passes. -- Socialism comes to the place.
Socialism: "Sorry, guys; I was standing in queue for meat!"
Capitalism: "What's a queue?"
Communism: "What's a meat?"

In the same vein:
Capitalism is standing at the brink of a deep chasm! [K. Marx]
-- And looking what socialism is doing at the bottom.

A short investigation of our log-files has ended with the
following results, I hope it helps to solve the confusion.

There are 2 people who have already posted news-articles
from ".su" domain, these are:

Vadim G.Antonov, a...@hq.demos.su
Dmitry V.Volodin, d...@hq.demos.su

We have received news-articles from these 2 people for the
following newsgroups (till now):

comp.unix.sysv386
comp.mail.uucp
comp.dcom.modems
comp.unix.questions
comp.protocols.iso
comp.mail.sendmail
comp.unix.xenix
xomp.unix.xenix.sco
eunet.test
eunet.jokes

From two articles, I can see the following two pathes:

Path: rcvie!tuvie!mcsun!sunic!news.funet.fi!funic!fuug!demos!avg
From: a...@hq.demos.su (Vadim G. Antonov)

Path: van-bc!ubc-cs!news-server.csri.toronto.edu!cs.utexas.edu!sdd.hp.com!
uakari.primate.wisc.edu!zaphod.mps.ohio-state.edu!rpi!uupsi!sunic!
news.funet.fi!funic!fuug!demos!avg
From: a...@hq.demos.su (Vadim G. Antonov)

Hoping this will help to reach the people.

Yes you can although with a bit of address-changing.
Since su is not yet officially registered in any nameserver it is kind of
hard to find out how to send it. Here's a way :

avg%hq.de...@relay.eu.net

relay.eu.net is a synonym for mcsun.eu.net ONLY used in mail forwarding.
mcsun.eu.net DOES know where to deliver mail to the su, and it will be
delivered. It is send to the fuug by SMTP and from there on to and through
the su using UUCP.

I exchanged some mail with Vadim Antonov and right now there
are some 10-15 institutes in the su you can reach.

I only tried it from my account on mcsun though, but it seems to me that
the above address would give no problems.

Could someone list them ? I sent a mail to V. Antonov and did not get a reply.
I am not very sure if he got it.

Are there any sites in Estonia or Riga reachable by e-mail ?

Did you consider he just might be *swamped* with mail from people
all over the world telling hime how nice it is to have Soviet
people on the net, and wanting to know everything about him
and computing in the Soviet Union ?

Well, it seems to be defined in the nameservers of mcsun.eu.net and
uunet.uu.net.

Could someone tell why the MX record doesn't point directly to fuug.fi
instead of mcsun.eu.net ? Is the main European CIA backbone closer to
mcsun than fuug.fi :-?

Did you mean "quite funny" or something like "Quiet please !" ?

That was the shortest eunet.jokes posting I ever saw.
