Greetings tango dancers,
The legendary actor Robert Duvall shared a profound passion for tango, famously noting that "when you dance fast, you have to think slow." He treated the dance not merely as a hobby, but as a disciplined art form. Following his passing on February 16, 2026, we remember his dedication to the craft, most notably in his film Assassination Tango, created alongside his wife, Luciana Pedraza.
In the spirit of deepening our own connection to this dance, we are pleased to host Maestro Joaquin Amenábar this April for a series of workshops. These sessions are designed to help dancers explore the intricate layers of tango music.
Many dancers struggle when they cannot rely on a constant background beat. During my trip to Buenos Aires in late 2025, I met with Maestro Amenábar to study his unique approach to musicality. His teachings focus on moving beyond basic rhythm to understand the melody and emotional elements that drive expression. By mastering these components, you can find greater freedom in your dance and a deeper connection with your partner.
I have recommended Maestro Amenábar’s work to my students since 2009, and it is a privilege to finally have him share his expertise with our community in person.
Please do not miss this opportunity. Additional details and registration information can be found in the poster below. I look forward to seeing everyone dancing at a higher level.
regards,
Marisela
