Wednesday Bailonga: Nuevo & Traditional w. DJ Laura
This Wednesday Robin Chappell proceeds to the second part of his intermediate series class on “Fusion Movement” informed by Argentine Tango, starting at 7PM. Here's what he has in store:
Ocho Cortado Double Play Part 2 - Rewind
Explore the musical flavors of an ocho. Study includes rise and fall for momentum and a double play rewind in the cortado moment.
This week we also will be mixing up the music: DJ Laura will be playing a 50/50 mix of nuevo and traditional. For those unfamiliar, nuevo is modern music specifically intended for tango dancing and/or heavily influenced by the style and instrumentation of tango music, whereas "alternative" is the wider category of any non-traditional music that happens to work for tango dancing. Come dance to Laura playing your nuevo favorites!
Reminders:
- Masking is not required but encouraged, and there will always be masks and hand sanitizer available at the front desk.
- Due to recent thefts at the Vet’s Club and in the parking lot, it’s recommended that you keep your valuables close by. You’re welcome to store them by the stage or behind the divider for extra security.
- No street shoes, please — they can damage the floor. Please bring clean non-marking footwear such as dance shoes or sneakers. Thanks!
- A 30-minute desk shift gets you in for free! First come first served to sign up for shifts, but there are virtually always open slots available.
- Please avoid fragrances/perfumes. Some of us are allergic. Thank you!
