Subject: Report 3- Milonguita with TDJ Rafael

Hello my dear friends and students;
Hope everybody had a good thanksgiving. Thankful  for having tango in our lives.
Week went fast as I missed a few days due to the cold.

Some Sunday announcements:
As I mentioned last week. Tomorrow instead of classes there will be an open practica 3-5pm $10.00 or if you have paid for the month, it is included.

Milonguita will have its normal scheduling 5pm to 7:pm

The practica  is a good opportunity to grab someone from the community or one of your classmates  and practice whatever combination you are having issues with. Or just practice the things that are working for you with other  partners.

Please during the Practica  make gentle suggestions: instead of criticizing! Saying something like this works for me.
Be sure to stop and talk rather than to keep reinforcing something that is causing problems in your dance.

Rotation is optional, specially for those who have brought their own partner. For the rest change every 3 songs, so it doesn’t feel too abrupt to end suddenly.
Be gentle

NEW YEAR EVE TANGO DANCING:
Remember that we are dancing tango on the 31st of December  from 7-10pm and a possible after party. Let your friends from the surrounding area know!

Tango in Buenos Aires
I missed a few days due to the cold but I am fine now. And have tried to make up for time lost, although my feet are the ones who ultimately decide how much.

Here is a partial list of milongas I attended in the previous week.
Last week I sent some pictures of La Catedral.
I am able to walk to this space from my apartment.  La Catedral is something to go at least once to take a look at the  extreme decoration, bohemian, Halloweenish feeling with its super high ceiling. It has been around for a long time.
It offers tango classes,  sometimes live orchestras playing, shows for tourists and a big wooden floor but not without some deterioration here and there.
It is sort of low key, a place to hang with friends, eat something (their Napolitanas  pizza is really good) the level of dancing is rather low, many just having their first lessons. No cabeceo code or special sitting.

The milongas in Buenos Aires exist in their own bubble. Habitues are the people who you can find in the same seats every week. Their   loyalty is paid by having the same table every week and privileged sitting. You don’t venture to other places not even out of curiosity on the day that your “home milonga “ is happening.
In traditional milongas, that is one of the reasons the organizer or a helper sits you.

Last night I went to Lo de Celia( the milonga is called Remembranzas) the organizer took a second look at me and asked, is this your first time here and I said no, technically my first time since the last trip two years ago. He looked a little confused but his reconsideration gained  me a better seat in front of the dance floor where there is better visibility.
On the subject of Lo de Celia (the name of the club) it is so well known that people use the name Lo De Celia for any milonga happening at Lo De Celia, even though there are different milongas with different organizers. The same goes to El Beso that is the name of the  club and many milonga takes place there.

So I went to Remembranzas at Lo De Celia. This milonga  belongs to the group of super traditional, well dressed…dominant ages past 50 to 80ish, some younger here and there.
Starts 7pm to 2:am. Super packed. Traditional

Champagne Tango at Espacio Riobamba: about the same characteristic of Remembranza. Starts earlier at 4 pm and ends at 10pm. About the same age group as above. lots of women. It is well  attended, perhaps because the organizer figured she would hire some male dancers called “support dancers” , a fancy way of calling taxi dancers. It is brilliant everyone leaves happy.

La Rosa: located at El Beso. Dominant group- younger crowd. Full of people, hard to move. Level of dancing is considered pretty good. 3pm to 8pm on Sunday.
All traditional music

Night club style:
Pecado Nuevo
The group of milongas organized by a younger  crowd. Music is traditional. Space is tiny. Everyone sits wherever they can find a seat. Very little or no cabeceo. 10:30pm to 3 am. Dim light is kind of like a disco feeling. There has been a large explosion of this type after the pandemic. Hard to predict their future. I stayed for a couple of hours and danced with a guy from France and one from Germany, an Argentinian. Ok. Dancers.

Hope everyone has fun tomorrow. I am going to try a couple of fairly new milongas tomorrow Sunday,  maybe they are practica dressed as milonga!!!
I will let you know.
LA ROSA ON SUNDAY-younger crowd.
