Hello dear eugene tango community.
My time here is  moving faster now. Hope you are all doing well with our weather. Here since the beginning of December it has been quite hot.
Talking about hot weather.

I made it to Sensaciones de tango  on Wednesday (no AC) super crowded. Dominant crowd mid 30th. With a general variety of ages. Kind of the disco, night club style. During cortina, you feel you are inside a Disco from the 70th flashing. No preferable sitting. This is the type you want to be with someone you know because it is hard to dance.

Most milongas you have to make a reservation or you may risk not having a seat. This is one of them. This one does not follow the sitting pattern of the traditional milonga (for example Cachirulo, La Rosa, la Bravita. Meaning women on one side men on the other as long as seats are available.
In Sensaciones People are still seated by the helper of the organizer but not in any particular order that facilitates cabeceo. People walk around, the usual cabeceo is looking in another direction if you don’t want to dance with that particular person. It has a kind of chaotic party atmosphere, but no one complains and the dancing floor is pretty full. Music was very traditional and nice.

It is within walking distance from my place. About 15 minutes on a warm night is pretty nice. I enjoy seeing many restaurants full past midnight. The streets are pretty well lit overall here, so it gives the city a festive atmosphere. I have always liked that about Buenos Aires.
So, Sensaciones de tango  is another new post-pandemic milonga. The main organizer is the amazing Aoniken Quiroga. He is quite a character I wanted to see him teaching, so I made it to the class prior to the milonga. I can’t get over how he can manage to lead another person in front of him. He is pretty amazing. He taught the best he could given that the prior night he had twisted his ankle. He jokes a lot, and makes fun of himself. Within the class he  gave a mini lecture on Pugliese. The class was some twisted follower sacada that then turned into a lead sacada.  Everybody was confused, including me. I ended up exchanging leads and following with a girl from Colombia. We figured out half of the steps, but near impossible the whole thing.

So far this is the crown of the Night Club style milonga. Ah, Aoniken promised next year he will have AC!!!  In spite of the heat, the super late class that went overtime had some attraction and the level of dancing between locals and foreigners was pretty decent.

The other ones I went to this week: La Chiflada kind of crowded too. Level of dancing is quite mixed. Age groups mixed leaning toward older more than younger. I ran into some old friends so I got guaranteed dances. Reservation needs to happen. I did not  and my seat was not very good. I Survived but forgot my shoes so I will need to return tomorrow Sunday to hang there for a while. La Chiflada  is not traditional in its sitting. Mixed couples and tables of men and women next to each other. It is a Villa Malcolm
Last night I went to La Bravita. Very traditional in the same family as Cachirulo etc.crowded and it happens at El Beso club. Hard to get dances there too. Plus the environment is changing. There are so many teachers, wanna be teacher or champion in the mundial etc. many of them have zero interest in dancing with anyone else but themselves. All part of the ongoing changes.  There has been a proliferation of Practicas and outdoor milongas where people are more interactive. Anyhow, I'm thinking of staying at the apartment and having some hot empanada and buying some water at the Chinese place across the street.

Stay well, and don’t forget that Rory will be DJing for us. And the super team is holding everything together. Be sure to thank them.  Classes continue with Deanna.  Hugs to everyone.

Here is a picture of Aoniken and his milonga.
