Immigration Justice Fundraiser: Traditional Night w. DJ Chen-Yun

This Wednesday Bailonga is hosting a fundraiser and all proceeds will be donated to a local grassroots immigrant justice group.

They are a local volunteer-run network that shows up outside the ICE office to bear witness, support families, connect people to legal help, and track detentions. They are entirely grassroots-- no staff, no salaries, just community members standing together in solidarity to resist detention and deportation. Donations go directly to essentials that make their work possible: a community resource table, canopy for shelter, signs, lanyards, printed materials, and more.

This group has asked me not to share their name, for their own safety sake, but they are people that I know personally and can vouch for. I understand that I'm asking you to put your trust in me and that not everyone is going to be comfortable handing over their money to an unnamed group. If this is the case, I encourage you to seek out other immigration-rights groups that are more public facing and donate whatever you would've donated to Bailonga. It is less important that the money goes through me specifically and more important that the people who need help receive it.

This event is a fundraiser but it's still a tango dance! We will be following our usual schedule, starting with simultaneous beginner and intermediate lessons, with Pamela Miller giving a run-down of some of Cecilia's best gems of wisdom from her recent visit, followed by open dancing, with special guest DJ Chen-Yun. It will also be the second traditional night of the month. Cost will be our normal $7-10 but there will also be avenues for donation via Paypal and Venmo if you wish to donate more than the cost of your attendance.

Reminders:

-Masking is not required but encouraged, and there will always be masks and hand sanitizer available at the front desk.

-Due to thefts at the Vet's Club and in the parking lot, it's recommended that you keep your valuables close by. You're welcome to store them by the stage or behind the divider for extra security.

-No street shoes, please ~ they can damage the floor. Please bring clean non-marking footwear such as dance shoes or sneakers. Thanks!

-A 30-minute desk shift gets you in for free! First come first served to sign up for shifts, but there are virtually always open slots available.

-Please avoid fragrances/perfumes. Some of us are allergic. Thank you!
