It also fails to power up nine times out of 10. Could that be the power supply?

I'll wait for others comments but a cheap try might be to replace the battery on the motherboard, maybe it just can't keep the cmos config to know where to look for the drive.

Good question but I put a brand new battery in it a day or two before I brought it to the meeting a week or so ago.

The fans run for for a couple of seconds then stops, no lights, no nothing.  On the 10th time when it does start up it stops at the no boot record error.  This is the same thing it was doing before I brought it in.

I can't believe that Amazon wants $100 bucks for a replacement for the original hard drive.  350 Watts I think it is.  They have rebuilt ones for like $30-$40?
