DesignSpring Charrette for Downtown Springfield
Date: Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 9:30am – 12:30pm
Location: Academy for Arts and Academics, 615 Main Street, Springfield
Springfield has many great characteristics making it an ideal place to create a strong city center. In addition to being the Historic Downtown of Springfield, the area has strong connections to the Washburne Historic District, the Willamette River, Glenwood, and Eugene. The downtown area has shown strength and resilience and has great potential for overall improvement and sustainable growth.
In an effort to enhance downtown Springfield, DesignSpring, supported by the AIA/SWO, is hosting its first community-based design charrette. The charrette will investigate economical solutions to give downtown Springfield business and building owners ideas to enhance their building facades and the corresponding streetscape on Main Street between Pioneer Parkway West and 8th Street.
We strongly encourage emerging design professionals to participate in the charrette! Your contribution will not only help the local community, it will also help initiate design collaboration that will result in solutions that are tailored to the target area. For more information on the charrette including current conditions and historic design considerations, please refer to the Charrette Background Information compiled here.
To help us better coordinate the event, we are asking for participants to RSVP if they know they are coming. To RSVP, or for more information, email designs...@gmail.com. We hope to see you there!
