I certainly don't want to limit the Local Activist list to Eugene folks. I
just want the Local Activist list to be about local activism--things that
activists are doing in the Eugene/Springfield area. Anyone should be able
to contribute to it; I just think the topic of their contributions should
be related to what this list is about.
And it's not that I'm unwilling to learn about filters, I just don't like
the idea of not getting posts from Micheal, or Bernie for that matter, that
would be about local activism, just because they won't "filter" their own
e-mail before sending to this list.
Hope this clarifies where I'm coming from.

The exact boundary, between what is acceptable and what is not, is a very
wide grey line. For example, an anouncement of an invitation only meeting of
activists to be held tomorrow on the Upper East side of New York City does
not belong on the local activists list, yet a report of what was said at that same
meeting may belong. And information on WTO type meetings in Europe may
also belong.
The key is thought, thoughtfullness and moderation. That is we all need to
consider if a posting belongs here or not BEFORE it is sent. We also need to
remember that lists overlap and that all subjects are not of interest to
everybody. This applies both to sending and recieving messages. Put
accurate indications as to message content on the subject line. And lastly
that there can be too much of anything, that is don't foward three messages if
two would do the trick.
