Subject: Orange ribbon campaign
Dear Friend of MoveOn,
While the Florida courts continue to evaluate the need for
manual recount in this incredibly close election, the Florida
legislature is preparing to call a special session and name electors
themselves, ignoring the popular vote.
Having a partisan body override the voices of millions of voters
would undermine the legitimacy of our next President. The state
Democratic party is organizing an orange ribbon campaign to protest
this outrageous plan.
If you think that every vote should count and that the American people,
not the Florida State Legislature, should choose our next President,
then go to:
Attached below is a message from Florida resident Elinore Simon, about
the campaign. Act now -- the "Democracy Wall of Ribbons" will be
erected at the State Capitol on Wednesday.
Sincerely,
- Wes Boyd

COUNT OUR VOTES
My name is Elinore Simon. I have lived in Florida most of my life. I
raised my children here, and have voted in the Sunshine State for as
long as I can remember.
This Election Day, I went to my polling place in my hometown of Jupiter,
Florida. I got my punch card ballot and went to put it into the voting
machine. I had to bend and twist it to get the ballot in the machine.
Once I finally got it lined up, I took the stylus to punch my vote for
Al Gore. The stylus didn’t seem to punch all the way through, so I
punched a couple of times to make sure.
I hope that my vote counted. But like thousands of Floridians here in
Palm Beach County and across the state, I can not be certain. Out-dated
voting machines, confusing ballots, and misdirection at the polls led
to a huge number of ballots left uncounted. That is why we have been
pushing for a full, fair, and accurate hand count of every vote.
Already, the Republicans have used every trick in the book to delay
this hand count. Now, the Republican-controlled state legislature wants
to throw out all our votes and pick the electors themselves.
They want to railroad the wishes of the more than 50 million Americans
across the country who voted for Al Gore and Joe Lieberman as well as
the millions who voted for their opponents.
If you believe, as I do, that the people of America -- not the Florida
State Legislature -- should be the ones who pick the next president,
then make your voice heard.
1. Go to CountOurVotes.com to send an e-mail to the Florida State
Legislature, and learn how you can help in Florida.
2. Go to a rally at the Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee on Wednesday,
December 6th at 1 PM (call 1-800-327-4499 for more information).
3. Wear an orange ribbon to show that you demand that the Florida
State Legislature not muzzle the voices of millions of voters.
4. Forward this e-mail to your family, friends, and anyone who shares
our commitment to democracy.
With your help, we can keep the Florida State Legislature from stealing
our votes, and keep our democracy strong.
Thank you,
Elinore Simon
