Hi everybody,
The list sure has been quiet lately, hasn't it? I guess we're all
busy with school.
Here's the scoop on Saturday's LIGHT meeting, for those of you in
the Springfield-Eugene, Oregon area. This is taken from our monthly newsletter.
(I'm going to try again to send out the schedule for the year.)
BTW, LIGHT is a network of Christian support groups in Lane County.
Admission to the meeting is free.

"Equipping the Student to Use the Power of the Pen and the Tongue," with
Steve and Shari Barrett.
Saturday, October 4; 9-11 am, Garden Way Academy in Eugene

" How important is language arts in your home school? The ability to
communicate effectively is a key to success in every area of life.
Furthermore, the way you teach language arts can implant character traits in
your child's heart. Our speakers, Steve and Shari Barrett, see home
education as an important means to reach the next generation for Christ and
prepare them to affect the world positively. In this class, they will lead
us through an overview of language arts, breaking it down into its various
disciplines. They will then take us to God's Word to draw out His purpose
and standard for language and the key principles upon which Christlike
character is built. Finally, using grammar and speech as examples, they
will show us how to write objectives and create lesson plans that
incorporate these biblical principles. We will learn to equip our children
to impact the world through the power of the pen and tongue. The techniques
taught will be compatible with any language program you may use. Once
understood, they can be applied to any subject. The Barretts recommend you
bring note paper and a Bible with a concordance."

Hi,
I am new to the listserver. Due to the fact I live out-of-state I won't be
able to attend this very interesting meeting on "How Important is Language in
Your Homeschool."

I read the brief description of the Speaker who will be discussing this and I
am most interested in this as part of my homeschooling.

I was wondering if anyone attending the meeting might note ...if they sell a
book on this subject or have a website or an address to write and get
information.

Any information posted here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
GRaindrops
