they seemed to want in public school. Or, what did they want in ps?

Hello. Although I do agree the public school system currently has some flaws,
and in any case, are not providing the kind of environment I'm interested in
having my children in all day, I'm puzzled by some of your other comments.

I don't think hundreds of hours more of formal schooling is what children
need. And I believe having both or one parent home full-time is a positive
thing, something that should be strived for - instead of putting more money
into day care, summer school, etc. I think part of the reason children at
home tend to do well on LESS hours of school is because they receive greater
attention, have the benefit of having their curriculum designed by parents who
know their children's interests, needs and abilities better than anyone else,
and because they can move at their pace. I don't think a school system that
goes all day, all summer or any combination of the two can duplicate these
results -- and in fact will just add to the alienation of the two generations.

I'm sorry your children are slipping behind --- obviously they don't thrive
academically under the public school system -- probably for a variety of
reasons -- but I'm not sure they'd do better if they spent more time there.
