We are in the same position and our son is torn between going back to
school for the social aspect and continuing to home school to learn, as he
really enjoys it! I would like to hear what others have to say, as well,
and Susan, let us know what you decide.

Susan:

Our son does not want to return to public school at all. He never
really fit in, anyway. He is an avid reader (suspicious as far as
other students are concerned), doesn't swear at all (he has scripts
written for his mIRC channels that kick people who swear), and
generally has always been an adult, even as a small child.

I don't like the violence, gangs, drugs and whatnot in the public
schools, and don't want Kevin in amongst them. Not that he would
ever do drugs (his biological father is an addict and Kevin is
disgusted by him).

So, Kevin will be homeschooled through his high school years.

Would you know what the minimum age is for students to take the GED?
We'd like for him to start in our local community college asap...

Hi everybody,
There's quite a bit of info on homeschooling high school in Oregon
on a new web site I know about, "http://www.efn.org/~hisnet.html". It's
still under construction, so there are some dead-end links, but under
Publications are most of the contents of a great booklet that HIS Net
publishes about older homeschoolers. There's lots of info including (off
the top of my head) GED, writing your own transcript, portfolios, college
admissions, apprenticeships, and lots more.
BTW, HIS Net stands for Homeschooling Information and Services
Network of Oregon, and is one of the statewide organizations here in Oregon.

Someone asked about the GED--I think the minimum age varies from
state to state, but in Oregon it is 16.

Something strange is going on here. The last few mesages I have recieved ,
if I don't type in the homeschool address it goes personally to the person
who sent it. It wasn't this way before was it?

I am very interested in finding highschool material to use for our daughters.
They wil begin next year. we want something that will help prepare them for
college. My husband wants something that will keep track of their progress
and will issue a diploma.

Any suggestions would be helpful :)

Nancy,
I think this may vary depending on what mail program you use, but in
Eudora if you just click on the reply button it just goes to the person who
sent it. BUT if you hold down Ctrl, Shift, and R it will put both addresses in.
About your request, did you see my post earlier today about the HIS
Net web site? That would be a good place to start:
http://www.efn.org/~hisnet.html and then look under Publications for their
info on older homeschoolers.
