I don't know anything about SF math specifically, at least as far
as their quality where math is concerned. What I have found in SF texts that
I have seen for several subjects is objectionable content. In a spelling
textbook I looked through, I found the promotion of sibling rivalry and
disrespect toward younger siblings in paragraphs written to incorporate the
spelling words. I've found other objectionable content in reading books.
Sometimes its subtle and buried in a paragraph where you wouldn't expect to
find any trouble. Other times its very overt. Another problem I've found is
the the attitude that parents are 'old fashioned' and their opinions and
beliefs are unnecessary for 'modern' children. Personally, I won't even
consider Scott Foresman materials for any use unless I have time to go over
them very thoroughly.....and I usually don't have the time.
