I did not realize that this newsgroup was specifically for the state of
Oregon.

I am a veteran homeschooler in the state of Missouri. I thought that it
would be good to encourage other families with like vision. I know that
there are laws, etc. specific to each state and region, but there are also
many ways that we can build each other up.

Is your local support group Christian, secular, both or different? How
often do they meet? Are the students involved in the support group
meetings? What activities do you have for adults....for students?

Is your state strict on parent teachers or more lenient.....freedom to
choose and build home school as you see fit? How do interested folks get
the information they need to start?

Do you build your own curriculum, satelite school, correspondence, video,
etc.?

When I started to homeschool parents were being inspected by Social
Services and children taken away to foster homes. Now that we have laid a
foundation for a positive glance at the "success factor" the media have
given good evaluations. It didn't hurt to have success stories like the
"spelling bee champion" on display. They may not be able to accept it as
yet, but there are too many signs of success to ignore. Even our local
Christian school is overwhelmed with students this year and has had to turn
some away. They are open to support home education, too, and allow parents
that suggestion.
