I am currently homeschooling my 5 yo and 6 yo. They have just finished the
kindergarten curriculum through a homeschool program. The program is very
strong in phonics. They can say the sounds of the letters, but their reading
skills are not very strong. When they come to word they don't know; they just
shrug their shoulders and say, "I don't know." How well did your children
read at this age. Am I expecting too much. I have modelled sounding out
words over and over again. What can I do to increase their word attack
skills?
