Hello all,
you're receiving this because you're on the Transition FWG list, the Food Hub list or involved with Hearty Squirrel (but if someone with access to the Co-op Soc email could forward this on to its own mailing list, that'd be grand ta) **If you want removing from any of these lists just reply to say so**
After considerable support at the EUSA GM for locating a Food Hub, we'll hopefully be following up by meeting Sam Hansford again soon to discuss the next steps. Rumour is that the Food Hub is "what 1/3 of the SRC (Student Representative Council) 'most want from EUSA' " and that the next VPS wants to make it happen too, so it's time to get a bit more organised in preparation for next year. Of course there's also the Meadow Lane garage that we could work on too, but I really think we should keep pushing for space in a union building, even more so after Thursday...
Thursday, you say? Well, on Thursday afternoon I was at Leeds Uni where their (union-located, est. 1994!) co-op was holding a 'study visit' and a networking session for other prospective student co-ops. It was a really inspiring afternoon with a tour of their current space and the new one they'll soon be moving into, talks (including 'how to get your union on-side!') and three types of vegan cake....mmm.
Anyway, I'd really like to feedback what I learnt from Leeds and from the other student-run co-ops represented there. It sounds like a UK-wide network of these student co-ops is starting up, so it'd be great if we could get involved and for me to pass on all these details before I go abroad next year. Having spoken to a few Edinburgh people since getting back, we all thought it'd be good to have a longer meeting, hopefully just after term has ended and when people are less stressed, where we can discuss the future direction of HS/VBs/Food Hub, but with the nearing society re-registration deadline of the 8th of April in mind. In practice this means the last few days of March or the first few days of April.
I'll let people know once a time/date has been decided upon, so this is mostly just a heads-up to see if masses of people are immediately dashing off home at the end of next week but would want to come along. Let me know!
Cheers,
Richard x
