Hello one and all,
I hope you are all well, enjoying summer and suchlike.
I said to Abby that I'd pass this on to the EUCS list. Sounds like some useful projects that Transition is working on. Sadly I wont be in Edinburgh next year (Erasmus) so I can't get involved with any HS activity :( but maybe we could get back to Abby with some thoughts on this stuff?
Lots of love to all,
K x

douglas...@gmail.comHi folks,
Hope all is well with you this fine monsooning Edinburgh summers day! I have a few bits and pieces of exciting news to share with you but would also like to pick your brains about Hearty Squirrel goings on next year. Any information you have please pass it on, gracias.
So big exciting news no.1:
Transition
Edinburgh University are holding a
Harvest Festival event as part of
our Transition work to promote action towards more resilient food
systems! This will take place on
Friday 1st October, from 1pm - 5pm, in
Potterow
So, would you like to have a stall/ board space/ activity space to let people know about co-op goings on, how it's an incredible thing and how to get involved?
Here's some more shpeel about it: the purpose of the event is to raise awareness and debate within the
University community about the need for a sustainable food future! The
activities for the day will be a Harvest Pot Luck Lunch from 1pm; a
wild food walk at 2.30pm and a talk from a local organic food producer
at 3.30pm. Throughout the whole afternoon we are hoping to have
relevant University & Edinburgh wide stalls/exhibits regarding
local, sustainable food systems. Those invited so far include the Soil
Association, Abundance Edinburgh, Changeworks Kitchen Canny and master composter projects, the Green Fork and lots of
food related student societies- to give you a flavour! We will also be
showing a presentation on food systems and sustainable solutions
throughout the day and providing creative activities for people to
record their ideas.
Not as big as yet but potentially very exciting piece of news no. 2:
Inspired by Aberdeen Uni I really want to set up a veg bag scheme at the uni. The idea being to introduce students, staff and more to fresh, local, organic veg by making it more affordable and accessible to people (ie. bringing it to them and waving it in their faces). The bag idea is an intro to a veg box scheme- get a load of veg from a local organic farmer, divide it into bags and sell for a £5 in a prominent place (potentially outside library, unions, chaplaincy, in KB etc) engage with our community about food and food choices and promote veg boxes, community projects and support local farmers!
Just a little aside I also want to do the transporting by...cargo bike
(maybe one we could construct ourselves...more welding fun karen?) so
that there would be an easy way to transport veg to different locations
and increase peoples curiosity! But that plan might need some more
thinking through...
I was therefore wondering if hearty squirrel would be interesting in supporting this scheme? I'd really love to chat it over with you and get your opinions, advice etc and catch up in general so when you get this send me a line.
Bonne. Hope to see you soon,
Abby
