Can we change a receipts status from 'New' to In production' via API

Hi,
We'd like to write a private script to change the status of orders from 'New' to 'In progress'. We'd then make the item, before dispatching them a few days later.
I wondered if anyone can tell me if they have managed to change the order/receipt status to 'In production' using the API and to share a link to docs on the endpoint if available?
