I guess I can go first, with my first Etowah Story. My Dad and I were
just talking about this last night. The Old Merrita Bakery that was
on the corner of 12th, and Meighan. When I was about 6 or 7 years
old, our Brownie Scout troup went on a tour of the bakery. It was
really neat. They gave us fresh loaves of hot bread, and we went to
Paseur Park and ate it with butter. I can remember driving by the old
bakery, and rolling the windows down just to inhale the sweet smells
coming from the giant fans blowing out of the side of the building. I
remember some about how it looked, but wish someone had photos to
stimulate my failing memory. It is amazing how smells provoke
memory. I can smell fresh baked bread to this day and remember the
old bakery.

Back in the 70's I worked across the street at McDonald's. We got our
buns
from the old Merrita Bakery. They were so fresh (just coming from
across
the street) that there was condensation on the plastic from the buns
still
being hot. MAN - those little Mickey D burgers were good back then.
Too
bad they can't get their bread locally anymore.
