I am a member of a coalition of Toronto climate & social justice groups (listed below) who are organizing the Global March to End Fossil Fuels - Toronto at Queen’s Park on Saturday, September 16, 2023 (11am - Rally; 12pm - March). Our event will be one of many global events demanding an end to fossil fuels - fast, fair and forever – in the lead-up to the UN Climate Talks and as part of the Global Fight to End Fossil Fuels. We are reaching out to invite you and your organization to join us in making this event as impactful as possible.
We would love to have your participation. Can you help us to publicize this event? and provide other support? Ways to help listed below.
Please note - we'll also have tables during the rally, we also welcome any visuals for the day.
Our situation could not be more serious. After a summer of heatwaves, massive wildfires, floods, and extreme weather events, it is clear that the fossil-fuel driven climate crisis is accelerating. The lives and livelihoods of millions are being impacted, particularly Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities in Canada and across the Global South.
But as the climate crisis accelerates, so does the movement for climate justice. Following the leadership of Indigenous and frontline communities, people are mobilizing in their communities, places of worship, workplaces, and on campuses.
The Global March to End Fossil Fuels on September 16th presents an opportunity to make our voices heard loud and clear. Join us as we call out the fossil fuel industry for its role in driving the crisis and blocking real action, while raking in record profits. Join us as we demand that elected leaders commit to a rapid and equitable phase-out of fossil fuels in line with the goal of limiting warming to 1.5C and preserving a liveable future. Together we can demand that here in Ontario the government cancel its plans for gas-plant expansion and invest in clean renewable energy for all.
We are asking you and your organization to consider helping out in any of the following ways:
If you could take a moment to complete our Supporting Organizations Form by Thursday, August 31 (or as soon as possible after this date) to let us know how you are able to help, that would be appreciated. If you have any questions or need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at lyn.ad...@gmail.com
We would like to acknowledge that our event, which coincides with the global weekend of climate action ahead of the UN Climate week, occurs during Rosh Hashanah. We understand that many people observing Rosh Hashanah will not be able to attend our march. Here are some alternative actions for people to take instead:
Call on the Ontario Government for an end to the gas plant expansion
Ask MPs to regulate banks’ financing of fossil fuels and cap oil and gas emissions
Support the Migrant Rights Network and join their national call for Status for All
Join the Land Alliance March for the Land on September 27 in Toronto and support their efforts to end unwanted mining in their traditional Territories
We thank you for any support you can provide and look forward to hearing from you.
In solidarity,
Lyn Adamson
