Rising Voices Wins a Knowledge Equity Grant!

We're very pleased to announce that our Rising Voices initiative has received a grant from the Wikimedia Knowledge Equity Fund to strengthen our work supporting communities that are bringing underrepresented voices and languages to the global conversation! The grant will enable us to provide peer-led digital activism workshops using the “Digital Initiatives for Indigenous Languages” toolkit co-developed with UNESCO as part of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, as well as expanding the very successful peer learning Fellowship Program in Latin America, and further collaborations. If you're not yet familiar with Rising Voices, visit the site and follow us on Instagram to learn more about our work on digital safety, media literacy, and language justice, all focused on communities and languages that are underrepresented in online spaces. Language hierarchy and exclusion on the internet is a disservice to us all: Minority language speakers miss out on tools, access, and recognition, while majority language speakers see a sadly narrowed representation of the world. The internet should be a place of knowledge both by and for all of us. We look forward to working with our Wikimedia partners to expand access to digital rights for Indigenous communities and languages!
