Dear friends and colegas,

Free Minds, Free People 2013 in Chicago will be amazing! This is the year that youth from Tucson will finally participate, as my students from Chican@ Literature After School Studies (CLASS) were accepted to present a workshop, and on Sunday, July 14th we will continue the work we started in the Bay Area in October through a National Ethnic Studies Assembly. I know many other fellow west coast activists and scholars will be breaking it down in Chi during these four amazing days.

This is the year that the West brings forth the energy, knowledge, and passion for education for liberation for our youth of color and all disenfranchised youth. Free Minds, Free People will never be the same!

I encourage any and all of you to spread the word via your own collectives, communities, list-servs, and social media to get even more west coast flavor to FMFP 2013. Spread it far and wide and see you in Chicago!

Dear Educator,

Registration for the Free Minds, Free People conference is now open! Please visit www.fmfp.org/registration to register.

Free Minds, Free People is a national conference that brings together teachers, high school and college students, researchers, parents and community-based activists/educators from across the country to build a movement to develop and promote liberatory education. It will take place in Chicago, IL from July 11-14, 2013. Visit www.fmfp.org for more information.

To learn more about what makes Free Minds, Free People such a unique and critical education justice gathering, check out this great new video shot during the 2011 conference in Providence.

With regards to registration fees, we are offering a fee range to all participants. You can decide how much to pay within that range. The Early Bird range starts at $15 for youth (21 and under) and $60 for everyone else. The top end of the range is $300, and there are several levels in between. Early Bird registration ends on June 1. After that, fees increase. For more details about the fee range, please visit www.fmfp.org/registration.

We ask everyone to be as generous as possible when deciding how much to pay. The actual cost per participant is $140. All fee levels have the same access to public conference activities. If all of these levels are unaffordable to you, we still want you to be a part of this conference. Please email us, and we can discuss other options.

Please share this information with anyone you know who might enjoy this important event!

We look forward to seeing you in Chicago.
